An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand daily practice operations and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its own characteristics, common features include a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners. At Sherwood Park Animal Hospital, we pride ourselves on low stress handling, progressive medicine, and outstanding client service.

Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
