The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for two temporary, full‑time (30 hrs / wk) Learning Assistant positions at Bow Valley High School starting immediately to June 30, 2026. Responsibilities

Provides assistance to students as identified in their individualized plans, including those requiring additional support such as personal, medical care, and safety needs.
Implements and reinforces strategies as directed by teachers in the Personalized Learning Plan (PLP), Individualized Program Plans (IPP), Behaviour Support Plans (BSP), safety plans, and medical plans.
Records observations and other data on behavioral challenges and creates records that support positive behavior strategies.
Participates in collaborative planning meetings for IPP’s or SSP’s as requested.
Provides assistance with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of classroom teacher / student support teacher.
Actively promotes student learning and independence.
Facilitates interaction among students with special needs and their peers.
Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of information related to students and personnel.
Supports students with routine personal care activities such as toileting, movement, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding.
Assists in exercising, adaptive physical education, range of motion programs, and fine and gross motor skills development as directed by specialist and monitored by teacher.
Supports students’ medical needs, including assisting student with transfers, tube feeding, managing tracheotomy needs, oxygen, catheterization, administration of prescription medication, and other routine medical requirements.

Education / Experience

Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate / diploma in a related field.

Training in preventative / de‑escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified.

Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behaviour and applying positive behaviour supports is considered an asset.

CPR / First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset.

An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered.

Knowledge And Skills

Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in a timely manner.

Demonstrated ability to carry out the plans and directions of teaching staff to assist students.

Ability to build and maintain rapport with students and staff.

Ability to adapt to dynamic situations while managing a high level of stress.

Ability to work effectively in collaborative team settings.

Excellent multi‑tasking, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.

Working knowledge of child development.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web‑based applications.

6% vacation pay.

As this is a temporary position there is no employer paid sick time, pension, or benefits.

Rocky View School employees who are ineligible for employer paid benefits may access the supplemental benefits package at their own cost.
