Location : Various Kingston Community Settings
Dates of Vacancy : February 23, 2026 – various lengths
Hours of Work : 80 guaranteed hours per pay (biweekly)
Wage : Hourly : Start – $30.63; 6 Months – $31.17; One Year – $31.63
Position Description
Provide specialized, empirically‑based, outcome‑driven supports as part of a multidisciplinary team for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health diagnoses and / or challenging behaviour. Work under the direction of the Supervisor‑Specialized Accommodations & Intensive Supports and support persons in a specialized transitional treatment home and / or long‑term specialized accommodation. Serve as primary counsellor for selected individuals and collaborate with families, agencies and other team members using a bio‑psycho‑social model.
Duties
Direct care with persons served :
- Incorporate health promotion, harm reduction, trauma‑informed care, cultural sensitivity and anti‑stigma approaches; recognize the social determinants of health.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including feeding, dressing, bathing, ambulation and toileting.
- Observe and report any unusual physical or behavioural symptoms.
- Complete ongoing data collection, recording and analysis relating to behaviour, skill acquisition, seizure activity, temperature, weight and specimen collection.
- Be alert to changes in a person’s condition, take appropriate action and report to the Supervisor and relevant professionals (nurse, physician, psychiatrist, psychologist).
- Accompany persons to professional appointments and implement recommendations.
- Transcribe physician orders.
- Monitor, prepare and administer medication per prescribed instructions with high accuracy.
- Perform CPR and first‑aid as required.
Assist in planning, development and implementation of treatment / behavioural support plans :
Prepare and collate assessments; attend support plan meetings as Primary Counsellor.Complete ongoing data collection and analysis of behaviour.Design and implement behaviour support plans / treatment strategies in all environments.Assess needs, design and implement programming for discharge preparation and return home.Encourage choice and participation in community living to the best of abilities.Participate in regular staff meetings and review progress of each person served.Participate in other staff meetings as assigned.Attend individual supervision meetings with treatment home manager bi‑weekly.Participate in training exercises, including direct observation, modelling, feedback and teaching others.Engage in ongoing data collection, analysis and display to evaluate efficacy of plans.Utilize video surveillance as an observational and training tool.Perform general duties, organizational administration and other related duties.Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge Required
Graduate of a Developmental Service Worker (DSW), Behavioural Science Technologist (BST), B.A. Psychology or a Registered Nurse (RN / RPN) or a similarly acceptable post‑secondary program.Successfully completed / maintain Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Advanced Crisis Intervention Training, Behavioural Analysis Training and any other course deemed appropriate.Training in ASIST, anti‑human trafficking, overdose prevention and trauma‑informed care is an asset.Current CPR / First Aid certificates and ongoing recertification per Ongwanada standards.Successfully completed a Pharmacology course and maintain medication training in line with policy.Valid G Driving Licence with full privileges; expected to drive Ongwanada vans as required.Strong interpersonal skills for warm, friendly, clear assertive communication with persons served, families, colleagues, agencies and the wider community.Good oral and written communication, and observational and recording skills.Experience with dual‑diagnosis individuals and highly physically aggressive individuals in an intense environment.Meet and maintain physical and cognitive requirements; satisfactory attendance record.Shift work required.Experience with a bio‑psycho‑social approach is an asset.Competent computer literacy and experience in vocational or basic life skills programs is an asset.Application Instructions
