Job description

Spectrum Resource Group

JOB SUMMARY : Wright Canada Holdings, operating as the Spectrum Resource Group is seeking Tree Planters for the 2024 season (50 + days) beginning mid-April through to mid-August. We have 14 million seedlings to plant! Tree planting is one of the toughest jobs on the continent and consists of long days performing hard labour in often inclement weather, reforesting clearcuts, and in the most remote areas of northern British Columbia. The compensation is paid per tree planted and directly correlates to how hard you work and ultimately how many trees you plant. If you are looking for a challenge, a job where your compensation is not limited to an hourly rate, with opportunity to travel the Province of British Columbia, this is for you.

Spectrum has long and rich history of reforesting clearcuts and reclaiming disturbed sites in northern British Columbia and Alberta. Over the last 37 years we have employed thousands of tree planters to restore hundreds of thousands of hectares of land disturbed by logging, mining and oil and gas. Come join the team of one of the longest running and most reliable tree planting companies in the country!

Spectrum’s compensation is competitive with other tree planting companies. Companies in the industry at times advertise gross pay per tree, we pay a per tree rate and add statutory holiday pay and vacation pay in addition to the quoted per tree rate. The per tree rate varies based on the contract. Here are some examples of how our pay structure looks.

2024 Spectrum Per Tree Compensation Structure

15.5 - Our Quoted Price (¢)

1.302 - Stat and Vac (¢)

16.8 - Gross Pay per Tree (¢)

19 - Our Quoted Price (¢)

1.596 - Stat and Vac (¢)

20.6 - Gross Pay per Tree (¢)

34 - Our Quoted Price (¢)

2.856 - Stat and Vac (¢)

36.86 - Gross Pay per Tree (¢)

  • Gross pay is before taxes and other statutory deductions, camp fees and special worksite allowances.
  • This price is limited to one contract in 2024, all other contracts have a minimum price 0.5¢ – 7.5¢ greater.
  • Average tree price across all trees and contracts.

Spectrum’s tree planting camps are remote bush camps. Spectrum tree planting camps have a kitchen with meals provided, dining tents, bathrooms, shower facilities, first aid rooms, drinking water and Starlink internet access. Shift schedule is a 3 days on, 1 day off rotation. Employees can expect training and mentorship from crew leaders and supervisors throughout the season. We maintain a proactive approach to safety and injury prevention with camp first aid attendants and training from industry leading physio therapists on injury prevention and management techniques.

Tree planters are responsible for bringing their own sleeping accommodation (e.g. tent, trailer), personal items including clothing, footwear, and toiletries. Planting equipment will be available for purchase. Spectrum has opportunities to continue working beyond the tree planting season.
