Who we need

Reporting to the Director, Tax, we are looking for a Manager, Tax to join us as part of our Finance team. You will perform tax planning and compliance activities in the Canadian, U.S. and international tax areas with the objective of minimizing tax and tax related costs. In addition, you will report on these activities, manage the functions involved, supervise additional tax staff and external tax professionals and work directly with customers and tax authorities on related issues.

What you'll be doing :

  • Own and strategize. You will have shared responsibility for international tax compliance of the company, all subsidiaries, including planning, reporting and compliance; as well as for preparing all transfer pricing, film tax credits, tax compliance and audit defense. You will be responsible for developing tax strategies to minimize the overall tax burden of the consolidated group of companies and minimize overall costs associated with the tax function.
  • Manage tax accounting function. You will :

Review the quarterly worldwide tax provision, which determines the global effective tax for financial reporting purposes.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statement disclosures for public filing.
  • Manage the preparation and timely filing of certain Canadian and foreign tax compliance requirements, including SR&ED filings and film tax credits.
  • Ensure compliance. You will manage tax and withholding taxes on revenue - issues relating to the leasing of projection and camera equipment, the licensing of films, the provision of maintenance services, and all sources of revenue generated from U.S. sources.
  • Optimize processes. You will redesign manual processes to align with available systems. You will establish and implement best practices to track and analyze global income tax expenses and tax-related balance sheet accounts. You will prepare and maintain internal controls documentation.
  • Collaborate. You will meet with finance directors to properly calculate tax provisions and tax-related balance sheet items and communicate tax true-ups and other tax-related issues. You will work with financial planning to manage effective tax rate forecasts and assist with the internal budgeting process. You will work directly with customers and all government auditors to respond to and resolve tax issues raised by tax auditors.
  • Grow and share knowledge. You will monitor and analyze legislative updates and technical guidance pertaining to tax reporting for impact on the global tax provision. You will develop and train more junior tax staff.
  • What we're looking for :

  • The education. You have a university degree and have or are working towards a CA or CPA designation and completion of the CICA In-depth Tax Course.
  • The experience. You have 3+ years in a financial accounting role, including time in the tax department of a public accounting firm or industry. You have an in-depth understanding of tax planning, tax compliance and tax return preparation. In addition, you have familiarity with :
  • Canadian and provincial corporate income and capital tax legislation.

  • U.S. federal and state corporate tax legislation as well as U.S. GAAP reporting for income taxes.
  • International tax issues under double taxation treaties and transfer pricing issues.
  • The technical skills. You have expertise in developing and analyzing tax planning and tax minimization strategies. You are highly proficient with Excel and software for data modeling. Exposure to SAP Financial and Accounting module is an asset.
  • The analytical mindset. You are proactive, resourceful, and process oriented. You can tackle a problem by using a logical, systematic, sequential approach. You weigh possible solutions, considering the costs, benefits, risks, and chances for success, before making a decision.
  • The interpersonal skills. You can build strong, trusting relationships and effectively communicate complex domestic and international tax guidelines and restrictions with internal and external teams. You demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to differing cultures, customs, and practices when working as part of a diverse global company and navigating international business operations.
