JOB SUMMARY :
This is a blended role that supports both the Digital Media Studio as Digital Media Specialist and Film Theatre Specialist.
The Film Theatre and Digital Media Studio will be partnered units as part of Digital Media Services at RPL.
Reporting to the Community Librarian responsible for the Digital Media Studio and Film Theatre units, this role is responsible for supporting the development and coordination of the Film Theatre programming, events and services.
In support of the Digital Media Studio, this role is responsible for the delivery and support of all services within the Digital Media Studio.
This position provides support, training and activity coordination for all users of the Digital Media Studio (library customers, staff, community groups, etc.
This position provides training and support for film projectionists and supports Film Theatre operations under the supervision of the Community Librarian and Branch Manager for the unit.
Overall, this position identifies opportunities to expand and infuse digital media literacy through the Digital Media Studio and Film Theatre into library services and programming that is informed by and responds to community and customer need.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Film Theatre Specialist Responsibilities :
1. In consultation and collaboration with Community Librarian develops, coordinates and evaluates regular film theatre programming and special programming for the Film Theatre.
a. Includes :
i. coordinating with external programmers, partner organizations and film booking agencies, to support film screening activity.
ii. Ensures that all RPL screenings comply with the regularly used RPL film licenses, as well as any coordinating licensing for special event films that may require licensing through other agencies.
iii. Coordinates the programming activities within the project and annual budget expectations as outlined by the Manager of the unit.
iv. Monitors Film Classifications and ensures that these are posted weekly for Film Theatre staff.
v. Coordinates and supports the production of RPL Film Theatre published materials and online social media posts as assigned to them, with support from RPL’s Marketing and Communications Department.
2. In consultation with the Community Librarian coordinates the rentals of the film theatre :
a. Provides pro-active and clear communication with external parties and relevant RPL employees and units as required to ensure logistical details are addressed (e.
g. scheduling requirements appropriately communicated to Community Librarian; technical requirements communicated to RPL staff / film projectionists;
booking in RPL software is completed)
b. Ensures that external parties understand the requirement to adhere to the RPL Film Theatre Rental Agreement; RPL Room Use and Rental Policy;
Terms and Conditions; Room Use and Rental Guidelines.
c. Ensures that payments and refunds are processed in accordance with RPL Finance office guidelines and procedures.
d. With guidance from the Community Librarian and Branch Manager ensures approval of rentals to third parties follow relevant RPL policies and guidelines.
e. Trains other relevant staff on film theatre rental procedures and processes.
3. In consultation with the Community Librarian provides training of film theatre projectionists and other relevant staff on use of film theatre technical equipment.
4. Ensures that film theatre equipment is operational and has ability to operate film theatre projection equipment.
5. Provides administrative support and assistance to the unit under guidance of supervisor : entering data for long-term film theatre staff schedules and submitting to supervisor for approval;
maintaining daily schedules as directed by the supervisor, handling daily cash and daily / weekly cash reconciliations; and other administrative duties as assigned.
Digital Media Specialist Responsibilities :
1. Facilitates access and use of space and resources within the Digital Media Studio. This includes establishing and enforcing processes and procedures to ensure fair and appropriate use of resources across all user segments of the Digital Media Studio (e.
g., library customers, internal programming staff and external groups and associations wishing to utilize the Digital Media Studio for external programming and events).
2. Develops and facilitates customer support solutions for all user segments of the Digital Media Studio and its products and services.
This includes self-serve support tools as well as facilitated training / orientation workshops for customers, staff and external partners, groups, and associations.
Applicable to both positions :
1. In collaboration with Community Librarian coordinates with other internal departments at RPL to develop programming, events and services related to digital media and film theatre programming that meets Library’s strategic goals and community needs.
2. In consultation with the Community Librarian coordinates the development of an evaluation and measurement program to monitor usage and to drive service improvements to meet community and customer needs.
3. Performs related work, including participation on teams, committees or special projects as assigned by the Community Librarian.
4. Assumes shift supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
1. A post-secondary diploma is required Diploma in Media Arts, Media Production, Digital Arts, Media Studies, Creative Technology or related field of study required.
2. Three years demonstrated experience in sound studio digital audio recording, video recording, studio lighting, framing and green screen studio techniques, graphic design and post-production audio / video editing.
3. Experience with various media production software platforms, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, etc.
and Avid Pro Tools or similar Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software platforms.
4. Experience with musical instruments and / or working with musicians is a definite asset as is interest in other digital technologies.
5. Experience in film programming, selection and exhibition is a definite asset.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public, staff and external user groups and to work as member of a team.
7. Demonstrated strong organizational skills including the ability to effectively and efficiently manage work, scheduling, and priorities to support customer-centered services.
8. Demonstrated analytical skills and problem-solving ability, including the ability to assess and problem-solve using logical, fact-based reasoning.
9. Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility, and perform duties requiring independent judgment, initiative, and discretion.
10.Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines, work under minimal supervision, and handle multiple concurrent priorities.
11.Demonstrated ability to find and propose innovation opportunities.

13.Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
14.Knowledge of program design, management, and evaluation.
15.Excellent relationship building skills, able to manage internal and external customers.
This position requires evening and weekend availability - Subject to change, approximately 40% of the hours (approx. 15 weekly hours) support the Digital Media Specialist role and 60% (approx.
21 weekly hours) support the Film Theatre Specialist role.
