Job Description
The incumbent will support the ongoing development and implementation of a risk assessment and management framework for CPP Investments’ Real Assets, Private Equity and Private Credit portfolio. Reporting to the Managing Director of the Real Assets & Sustainability Risk team, the primary responsibility of the role is to provide risk oversight for the Real Assets portfolios and investments, with a focus on Real Estate investments.
The Real Assets & Sustainability Risk team is responsible for : 1). the risk oversight for Real Assets investments; and 2). the sustainability-related risk mandates for the Total Fund. With respect to the risk oversight for Real Assets investments, the team partners with the Real Assets Department to provide : 1). Independent risk oversight and governance, including constructive challenge over risk levels (and alignment with performance expectations) as well as key investment and operational processes; and 2). Advice and value-add risk analysis to enable better decision-making that leads to improved investment outcomes. The team is responsible for identifying, quantifying, and monitoring risks associated with Real Estate, Infrastructure, Renewable and Conventional investments; providing independent views of key material transactions in support of its participation within the Real Assets Investment Committee (RAIC); providing risk analysis and insights at both the portfolio level and the asset level; and collaborate with Real Assets to enable its investment and risk management processes.
Primary responsibilities for this role include :
Assist in the preparation of independent risk assessments on Real Assets, Private Equity and Private Credit transactions, with a focus on Real Estate.Fundamental analysis of individual transactions in the Real Assets sectors, primarily Real Estate, to assess risk profile and identify key risks; Assess financial and business risks and recommend appropriate risk measuresMonitor the risk profile of the assigned portfolio(s) through asset-ownership period including proactively identifying key emerging risks, likely impacts and potential mitigating measures.Identify emerging risks, macro and mega-trends that may impact the investments, portfolios, and strategy. Quantify / quality the potential impact.Support the development and evolving of portfolio-level analytics, analysis and reporting to articulate portfolio risk insights to the senior audiences.In-depth analysis of the risk / return profile of the investment relative to other investments and / or benchmarksCollaborate with Real Assets Department to enable its investment and risk management processesIn partnership with the quantitative risk team, enhance the quantitative modeling and develop alternative risk analytics.Support risk leadership team and CRO in their respective roles in Investment and Management CommitteesSupport the regional risk oversight in Europe and AsiaEvolve the risk oversight engagement model with Real Assets and other groups (TFM, PAC, Legal, SI, Finance) to achieve deeper exchange of information as One Fund.Other relevant duties and projects as assignedQualifications
Undergraduate or advanced degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Finance, or other relevant disciplineA minimum of 10 years of direct work experience in investment management or financial services industries specializing fundamental and / or portfolio analysis in Real Estate and Private Asset InvestmentsDeep knowledge of the Real Estate industry, ideally with background underwriting or assessing individual investmentsExtensive experience in risk management / oversight of the Real Estate investments. Similar experience in broad private asset investments is considered an assetConsideration to individuals with portfolio or fundamentals-based real estate assessment experience or deal team experience that have the requisite skill set and desire to transition to risk management.Very strong communication skills (oral, written, presentation, and visualization) and interpersonal skillsDisplays a high degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage internal and external relationshipsProficiency in building and running financial modelsStrong quantitative, financial, and analytical skillsOpen to and comfortable with constantly evolving and changing priorities and new challengesAbility to prioritize competing work demands.Self-starter who relishes taking the initiative.Ability to deliver in a high-performance culture operating under time-sensitive deadlinesDemonstrate ability to collaborate and work in teams, while also being self-motivated and able to work independently
