Job descriptionResponds to user requests related to mail, file, printing, and backup services, including creating, deleting, or modifying user accounts; restoring user files; and providing information related to service usage. Manages all Okanagan College data centres, planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, and operating data centre infrastructure, Windows servers, and e‑mail services. Researches and evaluates emerging technologies and standards related to file, print, and backup services. Maintains technical currency with related security standards and developments. Responsible for network and server security within the data centres per the college’s security policy; advises the Manager, Networks and Telecommunications on security matters. Manages all college network services, planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, and operating services; collaborates with the Desktop Coordinator to integrate network services into desktop and laptop configurations. Plans and schedules upgrades to server hardware, operating systems, and network services applications. Responsible for the security of network services per the college’s security policy; advises the Manager, Infrastructure on security matters. Responsible for strategic planning for all file, print, and backup services, recommending appropriate hardware and software. Participates in division‑wide IT planning and assists in formulating network budgets. Responsible for developing and implementing anti‑virus policy for network services and working with the Desktop Coordinator on anti‑virus policy for desktops and laptops. Provides technical leadership and training to IT Staff and college faculty on network service issues. Monitors and manages network services to ensure effectiveness. Maintains detailed records of server hardware, operating systems, and network services applications. Supervises auxiliary employees and co‑op work term students. Performs other related duties as required. Graduation from a related four‑year degree program or equivalent. Microsoft MCSE or equivalent certification required. Security certifications considered an asset. Over 6 years up to and including 8 years of progressive directly related experience. Linux system management skills, wired and wireless network management skills considered assets. Ability to monitor, recommend, and take action on issues with operational implications. Proven project management skills. Ability to analyze user requirements and develop effective solutions. Excellent organizational, administrative, and problem‑solving skills. Outstanding research skills with ability to synthesize data and deliver findings. Superior verbal and written communication skills for key messages to general and targeted audiences. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Competent to work with limited supervision. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collegial and collaborative environment. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy. Ability to prioritize and manage a high workload and competing priorities to meet deadlines. Superior attention to detail and accuracy. Linux system management skills. Wired and wireless network management skills.
