We are currently seeking Assistant Night Bakers for our MLA camp located in Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut. Start date is mid-January 2025.

In this role, MATRIX is seeking experienced assistant night bakers. You are team oriented, motivated, and have acute attention to detail, accuracy, and excellent time management skills. You will play a key role at one of our remote exploration camps by performing all baking and kitchen help tasks in a timely manner. This position reports to the Executive Chef.

Responsibilities :

  • Assist buffet breakfast with “daily special” and eggs to order
  • Assist baked goods and desserts from scratch (cookies, square pies etc.)
  • Assist baking a variety of bread and buns from scratch
  • Support Night Baker with input on Breakfast Specials, assisting with menu.
  • Practice the “first in first out” rotation procedures to support food inventory control.
  • Participate in a Food Safety Plan using advanced HACCP recording methods.
  • Execute safe food storage and labeling of potential food allergy items.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings.
  • Support monthly worksite inspections as it relates to the kitchen facilities.
  • Performs tasks according to safe work practices and safe job procedures.
  • Notify Night Baker of unsafe practices and unsafe environment.
  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately.
  • Practice good housekeeping in the work area at all times.
  • Support and assist with coaching and training to other kitchen staff attendants.
  • Actively participate as a high performing, team member.

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year working in a similar baking / catering high volume position.
  • Organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented individual.
  • Ability to work a rotation schedule.
  • Ability to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work and maintain a high level of performance during a 10 - 12 hour shift.
  • Comfortable working alone at night.
  • Preferred Licensing & Certifications :

  • Culinary Diploma or Red Seal designation is desired.
  • WHMIS
  • Standard / Level 1 First Aid with CPR & AED (16hr course) is an asset.
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate within the last 5yrs is required.
  • Previous experience working in remote camp setting is required.
