Responsibilities : Underwriting
Underwriting
Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel contracts in accordance with company underwriting policies, procedures,
service standards, applicable laws and regulations.
Process new applications, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, declines and quotes.
Research and determine appropriate rates.
Request inspections in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Participate in post-loss underwriting reviews and review on claim files referred.
Collaborate with Head Office colleagues on underwriting products, risk appetite and pricing.
Customer Service
Understand and communicate underwriting business rules and guidelines to brokers.
Answer enquiries and respond to brokers through verbal and written correspondence.
Guide and direct brokers on the use of our policy and billing information technology system.
Develop and maintain relationships with brokers.
Provide training to brokers as required on underwriting matters.
Responsible for the handling of broker complaints and constructive feedback.
Oversight and Support
Responsible for workflow monitoring and service standards.
Responsible for underwriting of large or complex accounts; as required.
Responsible for collaboratively servicing large, preferred or complex brokers.
Human Resources
Support hiring, onboarding, training, and mentoring of staff.
Ensure cross-training and lead performance management for direct reports.
Other
Serves as an ambassador for the company when attending industry functions or company events.
Other activities as requested by managers or supervisors.
People Leadership
The Personal Lines Property & Casualty Underwriting Manager must be an experienced leader, skilled at
fostering a positive culture and developing team members for future growth.
Communication & Emotional Intelligence
Strong communication skills are essential, ensuring alignment during change. The Personal Lines Property &
Casualty Underwriting Manager must be emotionally intelligent, addressing concerns and relationships effectively.
Problem Solving & Analytical Ability
Have the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues, viewing problems as growth opportunities for both the
organization and employees.
Strategic & Future Planning
Have a strong sense of current and future industry direction and policyholder needs.
Required Experience :
10+ years in personal lines underwriting
Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Ability to work independently, collaboratively within a team, and in a leadership role to mentor team members.
An adaptable mindset with a keen eye for continuous improvement.
Required Education :
A Bachelor’s Degree or post-secondary certificate is required.
A CIP designation, or the equivalent, is required.
A CRM of FCIP designation is highly preferred.
