This Position reports to:
Chef de service, ApprovisionnementReporting to the Purchasing Director, the Customs Compliance Specialist is responsible to ensure compliance with customs regulations and maintain accurate import/export documentation, maintain system information for the company and its subsidiaries. Your attention to detail and knowledge of international trade regulations will help us ensure seamless and compliant cross-border operations.
This role is contributing to the Electrification, Smart Buildings division of ABB Canada and is located in Dorval.
The work model is hybrid, with 3 days per week at the office.
In a teamwork and collaborative approach, and without restriction to the various tasks that may be added to achieve organizational objectives and those of the operations department, the employee will have to perform the following tasks:
Ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. customs regulations.
Maintain up-to-date internal processes, including accurate HS codes, product descriptions, duty rates, certificates of origin, and country of manufacture validations.Prep
are and approve certificates of origin for Aftermarket and OEM customers and suppliers, including the company’s annual certificate.
Respond to technical inquiries on goods classification and provide tariff classifications for internal teams and our Canadian/U.S. divisions.
Analyze and update HS codes following customs changes; assess their impact on the organization.
Complete technical data sheets for new product lines to support tariff classification.
Identify discrepancies in customs declarations and implement corrective actions and internal controls.
Keep the USMCA data updated.
Approve customs invoices and manage B2 correction requests with brokers, including follow-up.
Update HS codes and associated data within JD Edwards (JDE) for all components and BOMs.
Maintain and document Import/Export procedures.
Prepare customs documents for U.S. and international shipments, including SLI and B13 forms.
Oversee compliance for customs activities in both Canadian and U.S. operations.
Generate various reports.
Conduct quarterly audits and risk assessments to identify and address compliance gaps.
Knowledge & experience
College Diploma
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation or relevant customs certification preferred
Bilingual in French and English (oral and written). English is necessary to communicate with clients outside Quebec.
Strong knowledge of customs laws, tariff codes, and rules of origin.
At least 3 years of experience in Import/Export, international trade, or logistics.
Qualifications & skills
Proficient in the Harmonized System (HS) and international trade regulations.
Advanced skills in Excel; proficient in Word and Outlook.
Experience with AS400 and SAP preferred.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Adaptable, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
