We have numerous positions available in the public practice sector, that we have been exclusively retained with, to partner and support a few smaller, entrepreneurial firms in Calgary, and Red Deer, AB.
These boutique firms all seem to foster more of a family, close-knit type atmosphere that are passionate about understanding their clients’ needs and how they can help them get to where they want to go. Most of these firms are well established yet have a progressive and open approach to attracting up and retaining up and coming CPA’s and allowing them to continue to grow, along with succession planning to the next stage in their careers.
Typically, these firms have in the 3 – 4 Partner range, along with 2 – 3 Managers and roughly 8 – 10+ Associates etc.
The perfect candidate will become an integral part of these team and assist one of the Partners of the firms. They are looking CPA’s who are passionate about providing excellent client service and are able to communicate effectively internally and externally with regard to providing guidance and support on bookkeeping, accounting and all things tax. They are all ideally looking relationship builders with strong work ethic and they in turn will offer challenging projects, engagements and a ton of work-life-balance compared to the Big 4 or Top 8 public accounting firms.

Senior Associates - Tax
Duties include but are not limited to :
Review and complete compliance and review engagement files, for public and private clients to ensure that relevant professional standards and firm policies are followedCoaching and encouraging other team members, and providing advisory and bookkeeping support for clientsEffectively plan, supervise and execute assurance and non-assurance engagementsPerform accounting and tax functions for corporate and individual clients including; preparation of financial statements, accounting advisory, GST consulting, tax return preparation, and year end file preparationReview files prepared by junior staffBe available to assist in audits when necessaryPerform compilation engagements for corporations when necessaryHigher level tax reportingAssist with staff managementDevelop business opportunities with existing client’s opportunities on an on-going basisAddress Client issues in a timely manner, following policies and using your strong technical skills and accounting experienceApply appropriate industry / business knowledge in anticipating, identifying and addressing issues relevant to the client's business
About You
The successful candidate will have the following :
Accounting Designation is required, (CA, CMA, CGA or CPA)Ideally – 2 years’ post-designation experience3 – 10+ years of recent experience working in a professional accounting firmLooking for Managers with 1 - 2 supervisory, leadership experienceCredibility with clients because of your current accounting, assurance and tax experienceCuriosity in their business, and excellent interpersonal and communication skillsExcellent organizational skills in order to manage multiple deadlines and competing tasksProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with CaseWare, TaxCycle, QuickBooks, and SageAbility to work independently in a fast-paced environment and take initiativeAbility to work well with and assist othersAbility to prioritize workloads and manage multiple tasks and deadlinesAct as a leader, continually focused on employee engagementIn depth experience in relation to IFRS and ASPE fileStrong attention to detail and accuracyExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to build strong working relationships with and manage people in all areas of the organization with or without financial backgrounds
About the Job
