This is a safety-sensitive position, the successful candidate(s) will be required to successfully complete mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing to comply with SaskPower’s Fit for Duty Policy.

JOB SUMMARY :

Position can be located in Regina or Saskatoon.

The Specialist, Field Safety Support will be responsible to verify conformance with SaskPower’s safety requirements that include critical safe work procedures, policies, standards and processes. This position will inspire leadership and promote coaching and mentorship in the area of safety and compliance.

This position will have the authority and influential capabilities to proactively mitigate safety risks. Mitigation will be achieved by providing leadership, support and strategic partnership with the business through effective job planning, application of safety controls and the setting and attainment of safety goals.

This position provides  field safety support to  Transmission Lines and Stations with the possibility to provide field safety support to Distribution Operations and Maintenance.

As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible to act as a central point of contact in the management and administration of strategic and operational functions, providing expert advice and direction that aligns with departmental and corporate goals and objectives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Provide field safety support to assigned workgroup.
  • Provide coaching to assigned workgroup to achieve safe work.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in a specialized function to develop, implement, coach and assist management staff in the administration and interpretation of corporate policies; providing advice that is appropriate, practical and consistent with relevant legislation, regulations, laws and / or industry standards
  • Identify new business solutions and operational efficiencies, while providing recommendations which have a significant impact on SaskPower’s business operations and strategies
  • Lead and / or participate in cross-functional projects to provide functional expertise for corporate and departmental strategic planning initiatives
  • Represent the department and prepare and present material to internal and external audiences as required
  • Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt them to SaskPower’s operational environment
  • Provide leadership and direction to project teams and / or assigned staff as required

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :

  • Degree or Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Technical Trade or Diploma relevant to the area (s) being supported, or equivalent AND / OR;
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) Designation, or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience in safety monitoring and compliance with experience in fostering employee morale, productivity and organizational success when it comes to a safety culture and / or initiatives AND / OR;
  • Thorough knowledge of Provincial OH&S and relevant legislation and utility standards with the ability to objectively direct and / or assist leadership in acting on safety accountabilities
  • Ability to provide investigation and root cause analysis as well as influence and implement safety compliance processes and procedures
  • Ability to verify management skills / competencies associated with completion of work observations and other critical safety programming
  • Ability to provide coaching and mentorship to leaders specific to verification of conformance
  • Provides accident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Working knowledge of current OH&S policies, standards and procedures
  • Team player with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships both internal and external to SaskPower
  • Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
  • Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills

  • A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered
