Persons residing within a 500 kilometre radius of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Persons residing within a 700 kilometre radius of Whitehorse, Yukon.For positions located in Yukon, candidates who meet the essential qualifications will be appointed in the following order :

  • 1. Candidates who self-identify as members of Yukon First Nations;
  • 2. Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous Peoples;
  • 3. Veterans;

4. Canadian citizens and permanent residents..For positions located in Nunavut, persons self-identifying as Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first.

Duties

Do you have an interest in the criminal justice system in Canada and working with victims and witnesses affected by crime?Do you have a desire to assist those navigating this complex system by providing information and ongoing court support with an empathic and compassionate approach? Is developing strong rapport and a safer space in your everyday interactions important to you?As a Crown Witness Coordinator (CWC) at the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) you will have an opportunity to use these skills and tools to aid in the creation of a more accessible route for those navigating an intricate system. Often working with people at the most difficult points of their lives, CWC’s strive to ensure victims of crime are aware of their rights and have access to accurate and reliable information.Crown Witness Coordinators work closely with Crown prosecutors, victims, witnesses, and the community to provide a critical link between the criminal justice system and victims of crime. This small but essential support team for witnesses and victims of crime provide services throughout the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon.Love to travel? CWCs travel to communities across the Territory that are served by the PPSC. Employees will have the opportunity to explore the greatness and natural beauty of the North during their travels for circuit court.Additional benefits to working in the North : 1) Allowances under the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive - in addition to your base salary to offset the costs of living in the North.

3) Vacation Travel Assistance - paid travel outside the territory once a year. The amount allocated varies.

This process is anticipatory. A list of qualified and / or partially qualified candidates will be established from this process to staff positions in Yellowknife (Northwest Territories), Whitehorse (Yukon) and Iqaluit (Nunavut), with varying tenures.

    OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requirement to travel which may include assignments on short notice and for extended periods.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside normal working hours which may include working evenings, nights and weekends based on operational needs.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence. Note : the licence class must, at a minimum, authorize the driver to drive a car, van or small truck, on all roads and highways without an accompanying driver (Yukon and Northwest Territories only).

    Experience working with or supporting individuals through difficult situations, which may include youth, elderly, persons with disabilities, victims of crime, or vulnerable people.Experience working in a Northern environment.
