Accounting Supervisor

Responsibilities :

  • Oversee accounts payable, including invoice processing, issuing payments, and reconciling outstanding balances in line with client and firm guidelines.
  • Manage accounts receivable, including posting payments and handling credit card transactions.
  • Lead disbursement processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee trust-related tasks such as depositing and disbursing trust funds in accordance with Law Society regulations.
  • Prepare and review draft bills, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing.
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures, ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis to the Director of Finance to support decision-making.
  • Manage and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering their growth and development.
  • Handle bank requisitions and month-end closing journal entries.
  • Take on additional duties as required to support the accounting function and overall firm objectives.
  • What you will need to succeed :

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • Knowledge of accounting software and familiarity with legal or professional services industry billing practices is a plus (experience with software like Elite, 3E, or similar systems)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Fluency in English and French to communicate effectively in a bilingual environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and effectively.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong client service orientation with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is an asset.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience is preferred.
