Compensation Range

Job Summary

This research and facilitation position will provide project management and research-oriented support to Dr. Turvey and will coordinate activities related to the Vancouver Canadian Healthy Infant Longitudinal Development (CHILD) cohort study. This individual will work in a dynamic collegial environment dedicated to enhancing the health of children.

Organizational Status

The research coordinator will report to and receive general guidance from the Research Manager and the Principal Investigator Dr. Turvey. The Research Coordinator will work closely and liaise with other research and administrative managers and will interact with numerous faculty staff and students throughout BCCH and UBC. She / he will supervise one to two research assistants as well as summer research students.

Work Performed

Plan manage and handle all communications for the research including setting priorities goals.

Responsible for the operational set up and maintenance of clinic equipment and maintains an inventory of clinic supplies.

Completes clinic visits including study procedures such as body measurements allergen testing and sample collection such as nasal swabs and phlebotomy.

Serve as a liaison to the project team to the National Coordinating Centre and other CHILD sites regarding data collection and completion of study protocol.

Coordination of team meetings as needed related to grants held.

Supervising research staff and trainees.

Preparation submission and management of ethics applications data sharing agreements and other applications.

Completes recruitment consenting / assenting and study questionnaires with participants.

Managing the collection and input of data into REDCap Open Specimen and other relevant software.

Develops internal record keeping systems including the input and maintenance of data and providing status and activity reports as required.

Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this category.

Consequence of Error / Judgement

Dr. Turveys research space is situated within the BC Childrens Hospital Research. Errors made could influence the ability of research staff to meet critical deadlines as well as compromise the results of research projects and therefore impact the credibility of Dr. Turvey the Institute and individual Investigator(s).

The Research coordinator is required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner suited to proper activities of the University of BC and to the professional organizations governing his or herself. Any procedures or data recorded as part of a trial must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered to. All activities involving participants are accountable to the Principal Investigator the Department Head and the Research coordinators governing professional organization.

Supervision Received

This position will work under the supervision of Dr. Turvey and the Research Manager and on a regular daily basis with the other staff. The Research Coordinator will be expected to develop a work plan and timelines and to exercise good judgment and initiative in his / her responsibilities. He / she will be expected to work independently and with considerable latitude.

Supervision Given

The research coordinator will be responsible for the supervision of : staff post-doctoral fellows graduate and undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-graduate and / or Masters degree preferred.

Experience coordinating research projects in an academic or health research setting.

Knowledge of project management methodologies and principles project evaluation and monitoring and multiple project interaction and integration.

Ability to effectively use MS Word Excel PowerPoint Adobe Acrobat and Illustrator at an intermediate level.

High degree of computer literacy with ability to use word processing spreadsheet internet and electronic mail applications at an intermediate level.

Superior organizational skills. Effective oral and written communication interpersonal and multi-tasking skills.

Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.

Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.

Ability to be thorough accurate and have a high level of attention to detail.

Ability to exercise tact and discretion when handling sensitive and / or confidential matters.

Ability to make professional decisions and recommendations on all aspects of the research work.
