Job Description
AECOM Burnaby is hiring a Civil Design Manager – Transportation on our Municipal Roads Design Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, receiving broad strategic direction and setting goals accordingly.
- Engage with senior management and navigate complex issues with tact, professionalism, and strong negotiation skills.
- Provide oversight and direction for engineering production activities within a growing operating unit.
- Manage a portfolio of clients across multiple projects.
- Lead all phases of project delivery, from initiation through to closeout.
- Provide civil engineering leadership, including project team coordination, direction, schedule and budget monitoring.
- Communicate effectively with clients, agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
- Assign, direct, and review work completed by technical staff to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to budget.
- Oversee project management activities including financial tracking, scheduling, and scope control.
- Perform business development and marketing activities to generate new opportunities and maintain existing client relationships.
- Direct staff to minimize exposure to risks and claims.
- Lead the preparation of proposals and responses to Requests for Qualifications (RFQs).
- Manage technical project staff, assist with their development, and provide input on staffing needs, performance, and compensation.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 8 years of civil design experience.
- P.Eng. designation in British Columbia or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a teamwork environment.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring junior and intermediate staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in road design engineering, with significant experience delivering projects in BC and the Greater Vancouver Area.
- PMP designation (or equivalent project management certification).
- In‑depth knowledge of applicable design standards, including those published by TAC, BCMOTI, and MMCD.
- Experience delivering projects for TransLink and Crown Corporations.
- Experience in marine civil design, terminal layout, and operations (asset).
- Familiarity with BC Provincial Standards and relevant design and tendering standards for unit price contracts.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (and Civil 3D) and/or MicroStation/Bentley, and other roadway design software.
- Exceptional communication, documentation, and proposal writing skills.
- Strong accountability for project budgets and outcomes.
- Proven leadership in infrastructure design and team coordination.
- Experience with BCMOTT and Municipal projects as a project manager / lead design or Engineer of Record (EOR).

Compensation
The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is CAD $125,000 to $200,000 per year.
