Our client, a friendly and well established law firm located in the north end of Toronto, is in need of a Real Estate Law Clerk to join its team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for completing residential, commercial and builder transactions, including processing, due diligence and closing of multiple real property transactions.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years experience in real estate clerking and will be an individual who is responsive, resourceful, and possesses a professional attitude with great client service skills. Someone who is capable of managing assignments and priorities to ensure deadlines are met and files are continuously and consistently moving forward, is key to this role and paramount to the firm achieving success for its clients.
Major Responsibilities And Job Duties
Drafting and Revising
Perform a variety of legal and administrative duties in the area of Real Estate law and will be tasked to prepare and manage documentation for residential and / or commercial real estate transactions from beginning to end. Draft residential and commercial leases and agreements. Drafting requisition letters, and closing documents Drafts all routine correspondence and prepares drafts of registerable instruments, licenses and other documents, based on precedents and sample forms Prepares closing documents to complete real estate closings, including statements of adjustment and funds summaries
Due Diligence
Completes all steps necessary to complete commercial purchase transactions, including review of agreement, noting critical dates, submitting off-title search requests, conducting and reviewing all searches Searches titles, both electronically and with the assistance of freelance title searchers Assesses and resolves title issues, including analyzing and summarizing registered encumbrances Reviews surveys and plans for description and encroachment issues
File and Document Management
Maintains and updates all current files and archives in filing system Performs, reviews and summarizes searches of title and off-title due diligence
Other
Handles complex and / or sensitive situations and multiple simultaneous responsibilities relating to real estate transactions Consult and collaborate with solicitors and clients to receive and implement instructions at onset and during the course of corporate transactions and reorganizations. Liaise with clients, lawyers, students and public officials and mentor intermediate and junior paralegals. Collaborate with support staff and supervisory assistant(s). Stays abreast of legal issues relevant to real estate paralegals
Qualifications
Completion of a diploma in Law Clerk or a related discipline A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Residential Real Estate Clerk within a law firm environment Commercial real estate experience including reviewing and updating title; preparing title and related documents; submitting and reviewing title and off-title search requests; preparing electronic registration documents will be considered an asset but is not a requirement. Knowledge of the Planning Act, Land Titles Act, Registry Act, Land Transfer Tax Act, and other real estate statutes. A solid understanding of current legal terminology Strong organizational and time management skills Professional communication skills with clients, lawyers and team members Excellent multi-tasking abilities Proven ability to manage a large workload volume, competing priorities and demands Sound ability to adhere to strict deadlines Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Teraview and Conveyancer, Unity, Lawyer Done Deal and PC Law Ability to work independently, take initiative and follow instructions with minimal supervision Ability to work well within a team environment
