About the Role

As part of a growth-oriented estimating department at Axiom Builders, the Estimator will manage the cost estimates for our diverse pipeline of mixed-use residential and commercial or wood frame projects and effectively communicate details and data to our project teams, clients, owners and consultants.

This will be our first Estimator based in Ontario and will work remotely until we have a larger team established in Toronto. You will be expected to work independently and support projects in Vancouver and projects in Toronto. There will be quarterly travel expected to Vancouver.

Reporting to the Director, the Estimator will :

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble all estimating input including labour, material, equipment and trade pricing with the support of a larger team;
  • Prepare and analyze labour needs and breakdowns to assist with budgets and planning;
  • Review designs to identify areas of improvement and opportunity for cost efficiencies;
  • Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure completeness of estimates, and all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general condition items have been quantified and costed;
  • Build strong relationships and long-term partnership opportunities with our trades and suppliers;
  • Conceptual estimating from preliminary drawings through final cost analysis;
  • Track estimated versus actual costs over the life of the project;
  • Contribute to design and preconstruction meetings with owners and consultants;
  • Support our leadership in the training and development of emerging talent on the team.

What you Bring

The ideal candidate for an Estimator opportunity at Axiom is someone who has been an estimator, cost consultant, or quantity surveyor and you’re looking to leverage your experience with an established general contractor that takes a relationship-based approach to winning new projects. You are detail oriented, highly analytical, and numbers-driven. You are interested in developing your leadership skills, and you are interested in an opportunity to be a mentor and trainer. Skills and Experience

  • At least six to eight (6-8) solid years of experience working on complex projects from beginning to end;
  • Proven experience as a lead estimator on a minimum of 1-2 projects;
  • Knowledge of trade practices, market conditions, and building materials;
  • Experience and comfortable working with a computerized measurement software system;
  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in Building Technology, Construction Management, Construction Technology, or a related field;
  • Strong leadership skills - with the ability to manage difficult conversations effectively and deal with challenging situations with ease;
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with all levels of employees and owners, architects, and subtrades.

    The base salary range for this role may be $115,000 to $135,000, depending on experience, plus a competitive performance-based bonus program. During the interview process, let’s talk to get the right fit for your experience level.
