Bloomberg News is looking for a versatile and energetic journalist to lead our Calgary bureau and play a central role in editing our global coverage of energy and commodities. The region is at the heart of Canada’s energy industry, with growing exports of crude oil and LNG. But this role extends beyond Canada : from breaking news on corporate mergers to major moves in energy and commodity markets, Bloomberg's coverage is global, fast-paced and deeply reported.

We’re looking for someone who can guide reporters in real time and elevate their work for a global audience, sharpening stories that range from quick hits to long features. The successful candidate will combine sharp editing skills with leadership instinct, forging collaborative relationships across Bloomberg’s network of bureaus, editors and platforms. You’ll be comfortable shifting between subjects, breaking down ideas for a broad readership, and helping our journalists deliver scoops, analysis and enterprise pieces that stand out.

We’ll trust you to :

Produce crisp, accurate edits under tight deadlines while helping reporters strengthen their writing and reporting

Demonstrate excellent news judgment and help identify the stories that matter most to Bloomberg’s sophisticated audience

Work with colleagues across bureaus and continents to break news and provide global perspective

Report on key stories in the region, including Alberta politics and the province’s relationship with the rest of Canada

Elevate Bloomberg’s visibility by fostering relationships with sources, industry leaders and stakeholders

You’ll need to have :

At least seven years experience in business, finance or economic journalism in a real-time news environment

Strong editing and writing skills, and the ability to help reporters connect the dots on complex stories

A working knowledge of energy markets, companies and economic trends

Good people skills, with the ability and willingness to collaborate across the organization

A high level of energy, urgency and creativity in delivering stories that resonate with our clients and readers
