The Department of Paediatrics, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Hospital for Sick Children, an academic health science centre dedicated exclusively to children, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is recruiting a full-time permanent staff physician as a Clinician Investigator.
The successful candidate must have or be eligible for a full-time academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of either assistant or associate professor.
The effective start date will be April 1, 2025.
The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (GHN) comprises 17 highly collegial faculty who provide tertiary / quaternary-care clinical programs and maintain a high volume, high impact research output in one of the leading GI divisions in North America .
The position offers a unique environment for medical science discoveries near nine teaching and research hospitals and Canada’s largest university.
The successful candidate must have completed training in paediatric GHN certified by the RCPSC, or equivalent. They must have excellent clinical abilities in general GHN and have training and subspecialty expertise in paediatric hepatology and liver transplantation.
The successful candidate must have an excellent and extensive training record in research related to paediatric hepatology / liver transplantation and show strong potential to successfully develop their own independent research program.
A postgraduate research degree is preferred. An Associate Scientist position in the SickKids Research Institute will be sought and approximately 50% of time will be protected for research.
Academic responsibilities will also include teaching and mentoring fellows within the GHN fellowship training program. Opportunities also exist for teaching in other programs.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will be expected to provide clinical care, which will include contribution to one or more of the GHN in-patient services (GHN in-patients, liver transplant / hepatology;
GHN in-patients, consult service), providing hepatology out-patient clinics, providing GI endoscopic procedures, and participating in the on-call schedule, all within a tertiary / quaternary care environment.
Ability to cover the liver transplant in-patient service is mandatory. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Hepatology program at SickKids, working closely with Hepatology staff members, liver and liver transplant allied health members and the surgical team.
All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent thereto and be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications.
Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary ($227,000-$321,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
