As a Journeyperson 1 Truck and Transport Technician, you will be responsible for performing skilled journeyperson shop, bench, and field production work. You will also repair and maintain buses. Primary duties include :
- Perform repair and maintenance work on 40 foot buses, articulated buses, shuttles, and auxiliary vehicles and equipment.
- Take inventory of parts, materials, and equipment as needed.
- Complete and sign fleet logs, work orders, and service records.
- Provide training and assistance to apprentices within the unit.
- Maintain cleanliness, work output, and safe working conditions in own work area.
- Assist with checking and diagnosing mechanical faults of incoming vehicles or related equipment.
Qualifications
A completed Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician - Truck and Transport (On road) certificate or a completed 4 year Heavy Equipment Technician certificate from the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board or equivalent Red Seal.A valid full Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with 6 demerits or less, and no current suspensions or charges pending.An original driver's abstract no older than 60 days must be provided at the time of interview from all jurisdictions in which you have been a licensed driver in the last 2 years.Applicants must be able to obtain an air brake "Q" endorsement within 2 months of employment (training provided).Must be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.Applicants must have the ability to lift 20kg (45lbs) on a regular basis.The following are considered to be assets : Experience working on electrical buses, experience working with air conditioning and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) certification.Experience with electronic service tools such as Cummins Insite, multiplexing, along with fluent interpretation of schematics. Experience repairing and maintaining buses, including both diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) units, as well as gasoline powered shuttle buses. A High School diploma or equivalency ( GED). A valid Q endorsement.Working Conditions : This position works primarily in a shop environment, and occasionally outdoors. Employees may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, vehicle fumes, noise, dust and heavy equipment. Some work must be performed in tight spaces and awkward positions.
