General Laborer

Overview

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs and has an immediate opportunity for a General Laborer at our Windsor, ON location. The General Laborer is responsible for the processing of scrap metals using various tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Checks and cleans equipment and Plant in a safe and responsible manner according to the checklist and cleaning list.
• Performs greasing of equipment according to the daily and weekly cleaning schedules and plant engineers.
• Performs greasing and cleaning on PM days according to the greasing and cleaning program on PM days.
• Notifies Supervisor of any problems, issues or abnormalities on the shift.
• Clean product bucket elevator boot section, pit sump, and surrounding areas from fines.
• Empty box filled with escaped borings at the kiln feed end.
• Empty box filled with iron oxide dust at the discharge of the cyclone air-lock.
• Water dust boxes. Coordinate this effort with the machine operator, the FEL operator and the supervisor. Ensure the boxes are completely cleaned out before installing them back into the system.
• Clean borings and fines around the briquette piles.
• Spray water on the briquettes when being loaded into trucks or rails.
• Remove foreign materials from the boring piles.
• Operate plant machinery; bobcat, lift truck, chain hoists, etc in a safe and responsible manner according to the machinery instruction manual and company procedures.
• Position requires “shift” work in a 24 / 7 operation.
• Performs other general laborer tasks as required.
