Role Summary
This position supports structural design and coordination for commercial and multi-dwelling buildings, taking projects from concept to construction drawings while overseeing production and performing field reviews. The role emphasizes hands-on modelling with ETABS / SAFE / S-Frame, code-compliant design, and collaboration across teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Delivery
- Design structures for commercial / multi-dwelling buildings (concrete, steel, masonry, wood), with assets in industrial / institutional / civil.
- Carry projects from concept through construction drawings using ETABS, SAFE, S-Frame; develop Excel calculations as needed.
- Prepare conceptual designs, markups, general arrangements, foundations, and working drawings; Bluebeam proficiency desirable.
- Perform structural analysis / calculations for building components using licensed software.
Production & Field Support
Oversee production staff on working drawings for steel, masonry, timber, and concrete structures.Conduct field work during project conception, construction reviews, and shop drawing reviews.Ensure familiarity with permit drawings, permitting, construction processes, NBCC, and other codes.Collaboration & Reporting
Communicate ideas effectively to team, principal engineers, and stakeholders.Write excellent reports and handle duties as assigned.Work collaboratively in teams or independently.Qualifications
Required
Minimum 5 years structural design experience for commercial / multi-dwelling buildings.Strong computational knowledge of analysis / design for concrete, steel, masonry, wood.Proficiency in ETABS, SAFE, S-Frame for modeling.Excellent communication, report writing, and code knowledge (NBCC+).Assets
Experience in industrial / institutional / civil structures, Excel design calcs, Bluebeam.APEGA E.I.T. / P.Eng. or ASET C.E.T. / Tech. registration.Compensation & Benefits
