Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant is responsible for end-to-end financial reporting. This includes, but not limited to, end-to-end month-end close, journal entries, general ledger reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement preparation and report presentation. The successful candidate will have significant accounting experience in the end-to-end processes for month-end close, financial systems, financial report generation and presentation, balance sheet reconciliations and journal entry processing. The position requires an individual who is ambitious, self-directed, and capable of working autonomously and with the broader finance and leadership team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities :

Perform month-end close procedures, including journal entries, accruals and reconciliations.

Produce monthly financial statements in line with the timelines for completion.

Collaborate with the clinical teams to understand the intricacies of procedures and ensure accurate cost allocation. Prepare and analyze case costing to support decision-making.

Work closely with Accounts Payable and Procurement to ensure the completeness and accuracy of accruals.

Prepare monthly reporting and remittances for HST.

Support the annual financial audit process by preparing audit schedules, addressing audit inquiries, and ensuring all required documentation is available.

Assist in the development and implementation of policies, priorities, and procedures to streamline day to day financial operations.

Support ad hoc projects and assignments as assigned.

Corporate Responsibilities :

Participate in all mandatory training requirements

Be responsible to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines.

Skills & Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Commerce or related discipline

Healthcare / Hospital experience preferred

Chartered professional accounting designation is an asset

2-5 years’ experience in full-cycle accounting

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Highly detail-oriented and organized

Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines

Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees

Superior analytical and problem-solving skills

Previous experience with Meditech is an asset

Advanced knowledge of MS Office with emphasis on Excel (Pivot table, VLOOKUPs, and other formulas)

Strong understanding of accounting principles (ASNPO)
