Job Summary
We are seeking a full‑time Grower to support nursery operations in Quesnel, BC, where we annually grow 18 million seedlings. The Grower will apply effective forest nursery practices, coordinate and train workers, and contribute to a safe, high‑paced physical environment that offers career growth and environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement water, fertilization, and greenhouse cultural programs based on crop prescriptions.
- Operate the Argus Environmental Control System for irrigation, climate, and alarm programs.
- Monitor seedling growth through morphological measurements and tissue nutrient analyses.
- Inspect, diagnose, and control insect and disease activity.
- Maintain accurate records using computerized record‑keeping systems.
- Inspect and repair Argus monitoring equipment and software as needed.
- Supervise and train seasonal irrigation employees.
- Train nursery workers on safe and efficient practices for weeding, quality control, and cultural practices.
- Follow the company‑directed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for pesticide application.
- Provide regular feedback on growing programs to the Production Manager.
- Clean and replace filters, inspect injectors, irrigation lines, and mixing equipment for wear and proper function.
- Assist with crop and growing material inventories.
- Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels.
- Set production targets and evaluate achievement.
Qualifications
Required
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Knowledge of greenhouse equipment and climate control systems.Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.Excellent organizational and record‑keeping skills.Basic maintenance of greenhouse, irrigation facilities, and equipment.Ability to climb, stand, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs for an extended period.Preferred
Pesticide applicator certificate.A degree in horticulture‑related field or forest seedling nursery experience.Experience with greenhouse monitoring software and hardware, preferably Argus.Salary
$30–35 hr, commensurate with experience and preferred qualifications.
