We are seeking a Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Engineer to join our Distribution Engineering Department. Under the general direction of the Intelligent Network and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Connections DER Engineer Lead, approve Customer distribution distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection service applications, provide technical guidance to Customers seeking interconnection approval, and participate in research and modelling to maintain the distribution distributed energy resource interconnection requirements (DDERIR) standard.
Responsibilities :
- Review, clarify, and approve customer and consultant DER interconnection service applications.
- Conduct research to refine hosting capacity criteria, update the DDERIR, and improve DER interconnection processes.
- Develop system modeling practices for grid forming and grid following interconnections.
- Participate in complex studies to develop requirements for DER design, planning, protection, performance, and operations.
- Undertake and seal designs and prepare drawings, bills of material, estimates, and specifications for projects related to DER
- Benchmark and assess the electrical performance of DER facilities.
- Participate in developing commissioning procedures for DER systems and participate in field commissioning.
- Employ project management techniques in keeping with the Project Management Body of Knowledge to ensure effectively delivered projects.
- Incorporate safety fundamentals in the design process using Human Error Reduction and Risk Management techniques developed by Corporate Safety.
- Participate in external and internal utility system related committees, working groups, research & development, and staff
Qualifications :
Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of six years' experience in related utility work covering visibility, automation, reliability, protection, generation, procurement, and commissioning, including a minimum of two years' experience directing others.Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.Demonstrated knowledge and practice of Manitoba Hydro's Distribution DER interconnection requirements, planning, and protection criteria.Demonstrated experience and skill managing projects using recognized project management skills.Demonstrated experience and skill employing lean and critical thinking skills to improve processes and procedures.Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually.Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Motor Vehicle Driver's Licence.Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e., air, land, and water.
