Communicative Disorder Assistant

0.6 FTE Permanent

Learning Services - Special Education

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) has an opening for a permanent 0.6 FTE Communicative Disorder Assistant. The WRDSB serves a student population of more than 64,000 pupils. The successful candidate will join an energetic and supportive department of Speech-Language Pathologists and Communicative Disorder Assistants. Reporting through the designated Speech-Language Pathologist to the Chief Speech-Language Pathologist, the successful candidate will implement direct language intervention programs.

Responsibilities :

  • Plans, creates and implements intervention activities for individuals and groups on a withdrawal basis or in-class basis in consultation with the Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Documents students' progress toward achieving intervention goals
  • Delivers tier 1 whole class communication intervention programs
  • In class modeling of language development strategies and facilitating language rich interactions to support students' communication development
  • Develops appropriate materials for speech-language pathologists, students, educators and caregivers

Qualifications :

  • Diploma from a recognized Communication Disorder Assistants program at a Community College
  • Experience with the school-aged population would be an asset
  • Ability to work with a team of professionals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Membership in the CDAAC would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required
  • Salary Range

    46,314 - $58,839 per annum based on 1.0 FTE
