Retail Deposits and Investments Technology within GWM is looking for a Sr. Software Developer to work on a strategic application suite. If you are excited to work on a business‑critical application suite that demands high quality work in rolling out new applications, enhancements to the existing applications with speed, quality and production stability, this is the place for you.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Development, this Sr. Software Developer role is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing applications for the Investment Platform. You will focus on the Authentication domain to protect our customers by working closely with the Technical Lead, Solution Architect, and other SMEs. Your role includes delivering full‑stack solutions and leading other leading‑edge technologies, maintaining high level of code quality, creating detailed design documents, and driving technical discussions. You will be contributing to the development of world‑class digital products and experiences touching millions of Scotiabank customers every day.

- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Provide system analysis, object‑oriented design / programming, technical documentation, and support for existing and new applications and systems.
- Recommend best practices and enhancements in line with the bank’s technology roadmap.
- Work with the project team to refine technical requirements and provide design guidance based on industry best practices.
- Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, documentation, and implementation of applications and scripts.
- Participate in estimation and planning of development efforts for various projects and enhancements.
- Maintain, support, and enhance existing applications and participate in code reviews for release activities.
- Lead the implementation efforts for code deployment to non‑production and production environments.
- Analyze production issues and perform root cause analysis for production and implementation issues.
- Assist product owners and business analysts in discovering current system behavior and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Understand the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline is preferred.At least 10+ years of technical working experience in systems analysis, design, development, unit testing, and debugging. Experience in application architecture and API design.Frontend development background building web applications using ReactJS, NodeJS, NextJS and modern JavaScript toolsets (ES6+, Webpack, Babel, Jest, SonarQube, CheckMarx, Web Inspect) and knowledge of HTML / CSS / SASS.Technical experience with Core Java (Version 8 or higher) / Java, JDK 17+.Proficient in SQL and relational databases.Experience with Spring framework – Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data Repositories, Spring Batch, Hibernate, Kafka.Technical knowledge of Web Services, SOAP / REST, IntelliJ, STS Spring Tools, or Eclipse IDE.Knowledge or experience with Git, Bitbucket, Gradle, Maven, Jira, Confluence, or similar tools for building CI / CD pipelines.Knowledge of SSL and secure handshake between applications.Technical knowledge of Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Splunk, Dynatrace.Experience developing security systems and analyzing vulnerabilities.Agile environment experience. Collaboration tools – JIRA, Confluence.Experience with investment products or retail investment banking is an asset.Viewpoint required to assess impact of development / changes on overall data processing environment.Prior experience in wealth and / or investment products.Customer‑first mindset while providing technology solutions to business problems.What's in it for you?
