Application Engineer (Mechanical / Design)
Location : Western Canada – Edmonton or Calgary (Preferred) – position based at any Western Canada AIT location.

Position
Reporting to the Technical & Project Manager – Western Canada, the Application Engineer will be responsible for providing solutions for mechanical components and systems. The ideal candidate must be experienced, determined, influential and possess a broad strategic perspective with a proven track record of success in Technical Projects.
Responsibilities
- Research, design and develop mechanical solutions for bearing, power transmission, and rotating equipment (pumps, motors, etc.) components and systems.
- Perform detailed analysis and recommend mechanical systems and components such as gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, pumps, motors, material handling, and other mechanical systems.
- Produce fabrication and manufacturing drawings using CAD tools.
- Oversee technical projects to ensure documentation and quality standards are met.
- Help drive initiatives and results to achieve Technical Services priorities and targets.
- Take ownership of the development of solutions from concept to completion.
- Stay up to date on the latest technologies while looking for opportunities to enhance Applied’s product and service offerings.
- Review technical opportunities and take on as required.
- Coach others in the technologies to help them advance their skills and knowledge.
- Be a responsible member for Applied’s Engineering permits in 2 provinces.
- Document value added services for opportunities and solutions provided to the customer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Post‑secondary education in Mechanical Engineering.P. Eng is a must.5–10+ years of experience providing mechanical solutions in industrial applications for oil and gas, agriculture, pulp and paper, forestry, mining, chemical processing, food processing, and aggregate customers.Knowledge in design and drafting (3D modelling) using Inventor 3D.Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint are a must.MS Project knowledge would be an asset.Proven leadership skills and coaching abilities.Collaborative and able to develop / maintain relationships with ease inside and outside the organization.Ability to quickly analyze unique situations, solve problems, determine risk and impact on projects.Strong ability to handle several projects simultaneously with a strong sense of urgency and meet absolute deadlines.Ability to communicate detailed information, frequently involving project needs and wants at all levels of the business.Willingness and ability to travel as required (less than 25%).Applied Industrial Technologies offers competitive compensation, comprehensive group benefit package, company‑sponsored RRSP, and ongoing opportunities for development and career advancement.
