BACKGROUND
Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) is the primary point of contact for all research funding applications and awards at Memorial University. The Hibernia and Hebron Research & Development initiative encompasses a new portfolio of projects in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Additive Manufacturing, Sustainability, and Subsurface Prediction.
The position of Manager, Finance and Administration will provide administrative leadership in the functional areas of financial management, including budgeting, oversight, and reporting; human resource management, and supervision and guidance of the finance team in conjunction with the Associate Director, Hibernia and Hebron Research & Development Initiative. The successful candidate will play a key role as a member of the administrative team in support of the initiative deliverables.
DUTIES
Reporting to the Associate Director, Hibernia and Hebron Research & Development Initiative, the successful applicant will be responsible for managing financial and human resources initiatives in collaboration with members of the various research teams involved. Duties include financial management, budgeting, forecasting, ensuring compliance with funding agency guidelines, and with university administrative, financial, and human resource policies and procedures; financial reporting, operational monitoring, which includes control and reporting of financial status, ensuring expenditures align with budgets, forecasting future needs, and establishing effective and efficient management of physical, financial, and human resources. The Manager, Finance and Administration will be responsible for developing, recommending, implementing, and tracking of financial and administrative policies and procedures; providing financial stewardship through oversight of expenditures; performing financial analysis and directing and supervising administrative staff; organizing and developing responses to public contract initiatives; preparing and bidding on public tenders; developing and managing general contract; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (5-7 years) at the managerial level in administration or a related field, including finance and operations management; an undergraduate degree in business administration or related field from a recognized university; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills; be a motivated self-starter who solves problems creatively, can work collaboratively, and embraces challenges. The successful applicant is expected to possess excellent analytical writing ability; proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial reporting systems; experience with research administration, preferably in an academic setting, managing research accounts, or equivalent relevant experience. Ability to oversee and lead change initiatives or change management, along with familiarity with provincial and national funding organizations; experience in developing and implementing administrative protocols; and knowledge of Memorial's policies and procedures related to asset management, financial management, human resources management, and procurement are essential for this role. Possession of a master’s degree in business administration and / or a professional accounting designation would be considered an asset.
SALARY $72,832 - $94,409 per annum (Management and Professional)
