Duties
- Provide nursing care consistent with College Standards supportive and with patient treatment / rehabilitation goals for people with mental illness who come into conflict with the law
- Develop and implement, in conjunction with interdisciplinary treatment team, creative treatment plans responsive to individual needs
- Identify and coordinate provision of services and resources, in collaboration with affiliate and community partners, advocating to safeguard the person in care’s entitlements and rights
- Lead and guide other nursing staff in daily work assignments, ensuring work is completed to standards
- Provide patient care for the assigned case load.
- Manage and direct the care of patients in crisis situations.
- Recognize and intervene around emergent health problems.
- Provide a safe, therapeutic environment including acute nursing care, crisis management and stabilization
- Prepare and administer mediation as per policy and procedure.
- Apply the Mental Health Act and all other legislation related to the practice of psychiatric nursing
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient / client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Discrimination and Harassment Free policy.

Qualifications :
Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario is required.BScN Preferred.Certification in psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing considered an asset.Clear understanding of the MHA and relevant legislation.Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.Have met the Royal nursing and hospital standards for mandatory education (CPR, WHIMIS, Fire Safety and Evacuation Training).CPI and ASSIST training is considered an asset.Able to meet the Standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.Recognized leadership skills with the ability to build the inter-disciplinary team approach to delivering interventions.Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary treatment team.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check – vulnerable sector.Valid drivers’ license.Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and incorporation of this legislation into practice (Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decision Act, PHIPA, and CSA).English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingualism an asset.Salary Range : $37.93 to $54.37 per hour
