Mechanical Equipment Engineer
We are looking for a Mechanical Equipment Engineer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC’s Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on‑power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world.

Our Role
Reporting to the Mechanical Equipment Engineering Manager, the engineer sets the technical direction for the overall project and acts as a technical interface point to both internal and external customers. The department focuses on the design of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors, including automated and semi‑automated fueling machines, medical isotope systems, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling. Responsibilities include concept design, detailed design, design calculations, assessments, studies, technical document preparation, and manufacturing, test, commissioning, maintenance and operational support.
Your Day to Day
- Provide execution of, and lead, design / analysis / test / commissioning of complex equipment and systems throughout the entire product life cycle.
- Prepareอก or lead design documentation (including technical documents, : set drawings and BOMs), technical specifications, development and test plans, and engineering quotations.
- Prepare and verify 3‑D modelling for conceptual design and perform stress analysis.
- Apply and lead design for manufacturability / assembly (DFMA) techniques.
- Provide carbono for CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Commissioning & Service personnel.
- Participate in and lead internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, preparing and presenting technical data.
- Prepare and / or verify project‑level deliverables including evaluationsktiv, reports, and assessments.
- Manage engineering and product excellence, effective design activity management, task / milestone completion on‑time / on‑budget, producing defect‑free designs, meeting metrics, motivating a diverse team and managing results through influencing and setting expectations / actions.
- Lead by example, assuring compliance and adherence to processes (including internal Business Management System), industry codes and standards, quality systems, policy and contractual requirements.
- Present and report on status, issues / solutions, improvements and-es cal resource needs as required.
- Provide overall Project Technical Leadership duties for projects as_ignore required.
- Contribute to and lead process change through enhancement and technology introduction for world‑class product development and deployment.
- Build customer relationships and ensure market alignment, interacting consistently with external customers, subcontractors and cross‑functional internal teams.
- Drive proposal development and review including scope review and estimate preparation as well as technical and product presentations to the customer; may be assigned Proposal Estimate Lead roles as required.
- Identify project risks proactively, analyze solutions and take decisive action to resolve issues, communicating to leadership as required.
- Provide technical direction and oversight of design activities including technical review, verification of documentation and / or drawings.
- Ensure health and safety associated with execution of all projects and activities.
- Short‑term travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients and stakeholders.
Qualifications
B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.HE holds a current PEO license.Typically requires 10 years’ experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation or other highly regulated and process‑based design.Typically requires 5 years’ experience in design and development, with proven success in a technical leadership role.Demonstrated ability in leading engineering projects and as aγχ key design team member for complex projects over their complete EPC life cycles.Demonstrable experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics and other project management methodologies.Exposure with a broad range of interdisciplinary activities : systems design, requirements development, interface design, manufacturing and testing.Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments : systems, I&C mleae, software design and manufacturing.Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.Creative problem‑solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills, strong technical experience and the ability to work in a team.Flexibility to work remotely on short‑term customer site assignment.Most importantly…. creative and innovative thinkers!Desired Characteristics
