Transportation and Infrastructure - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Responsible for electrical inspections of Government buildings and school facilities working with building operations staff. Investigates building system problems, provides analysis, report and recommendations. Participates in the facility condition assessment process as it relates to electrical building systems to regularly maintain the Division’s asset management program. Designs and manages program maintenance projects in-house under the supervision of engineering staff. Provides direction to contractors and prepares stop work orders for immediate correction where conditions are found that involve life safety or fire safety code violations. May involve site coordination duties relating to quality control, interpretation of drawings and specifications, review of change orders, monitoring of construction schedules, verification of work completion for the purpose of progress payments. Requires considerable liaison with contractors, project managers, and building management staff. Other related duties as assigned.
Screening Criteria
- Inspection experience in the electrical field.
- Experience with interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Successful completion of an accredited three year Electrical Engineering Technology program or journeyperson’s certificate in an applicable trade.
Assessment Criteria
Knowledge of acceptable electrical trade procedures.Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, regulations and related standards.Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.Ability to make independent decisions and problem solve.Ability to assess and evaluate multiple issues and balance competing demands in a dynamic environment.Professionalism.Conditions of Employment

Valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license.Current Driver’s Abstract suitable to the Employer.Use of a personal vehicle.Conditions of Acceptance
Activities performed occasionally involve working in awkward or cramped positions often with a need for strength and endurance and ability to maintain physical balance. Work also requires the regular use of a ladder to access areas requiring inspection and work at heights.Required to wear safety equipment such as safety boots, hardhat, safety vests, safety glasses and personal protection measures when completing onsite inspections and overseeing construction.As travel throughout the Region is a requirement, driving occurs on a regular basis.Information for Applicants
