The Parts Technician will be responsible for selecting and purchasing products to support our railcar and locomotive repair and overhaul material requirements. Responsibilities will include processing purchase orders, tracking orders, negotiating with suppliers, creating and maintaining inventory, auditing, material planning and kitting. The Material Coordinator should be analytical and have good planning skills.
Roles & Responsibilities
Assists with the ordering, organizing, shelving, packing, labeling, delivering and maintaining a perpetual inventory of supplies, materials and equipmentAssists in purchase of inventory items for the operations including researching parts, pricing, and vendors as directedBuilds relationships with customers and vendorsPerforms all data entry into the inventory records using applicable computer-based systems so that inventory lists reflect how much stock is in the warehouse at any given timeAssists with the full cycle process related to customs documentation and material returns; supports invoicing for internal and external salesAdvance plans and organize the material inventory requirements for locomotives scheduled to the sitePrepares a kit of materials for the locomotive based on next in scheduling and ensures the completeness of the material requirements and delivers to shopAssist where required with Loading and unloading all stock; works cooperatively with delivery truck drivers, maintains laydown locations, and cleans warehouse storage areas; receives and organizes materials in appropriate areas and identifies and labels materialsAssists with the managing of all freight providers including couriers and mailing of materials and partsEnsure the parts building and laydown space is kept neat, clean, and well-organized ensuring inventory is sorted and stocked; identifies the need for the repair of all warehouse equipment and maintenance of the buildingEnsures all safety practices and policies are adhered toSkills, Knowledge & Abilities
Demonstrates initiative to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload taking into consideration conflicting deadlines and / or multiple requests for partsDemonstrates effective oral and written communication with employees, customers, and suppliersKnowledge of general purchasing practices, inventory management concepts, and accounting procedures including invoicingSkilled in the use of computer equipment, operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet and database softwareHold and maintain valid class 5 drivers’ license and obtain a forklift operator certification.Must be physically able to lift heavy items above and below shoulder height, and perform continuous standing, walking, reaching, and bendingAbility to work outside in all weather conditionsEducation & Experience
