Job Description
The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Director will design and execute the corporate health, safety, and environmental strategy and programs. This role also involves ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including the CPS Safety Pillar Objectives, at all facilities and job sites, fostering a culture of safety and sustainability, and spearheading continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures, including CPS Pillar objectives.
- Develops and implements EH&S strategies and action plans that align with the corporation’s business objectives.
- Leads and mentors the EH&S team, fostering a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability, while setting clear, measurable key performance indicators (KPI) and goals.
- Provides regular EH&S reports to the corporate leadership team.
- Oversees the continuous improvement of corporate EH&S policies, procedures, and reporting tools.
- Monitors and analyzes EH&S performance metrics, driving initiatives to reduce incidents and enhance workplace safety.
- Conducts regular audits and inspections to ensure EH&S regulatory compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensures effective incident response and crisis management plans are in place and leads investigations when required.
- Engages with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, regulators, and community groups, to promote EH&S initiatives.
- Represents the company in industry forums and regulatory discussions to maintain a strong presence and ensure compliance.
- Raises awareness of emerging environmental issues, both legislated and best practice, highlighting their impact on corporate, ethical, and social responsibility.
- Keeps current with changes in EH&S legislation and industry best practices to ensure ongoing alignment with current standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
10+ years' experience in HSE roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.Experience in developing and implementing EH&S programs and monitoring performance.Strong knowledge of applicable EH&S regulatory requirements.Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.The National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) and other professionally recognized certifications in the safety, risk management related field are highly desirable.Strong leadership and team building skills.Demonstrates a high level of integrity and dependability, coupled with a strong sense of urgency and a results-driven focus.Exercises strict confidentiality and discretion in handling proprietary and sensitive information.High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.Travel to various Cornerstone Building Brands locations will be required (approximately 25%).
