Job Summary
The Manufacturing System Administrator is responsible for overseeing the smooth and efficient operation of the Manufacturing System, including its integration with other software tools as required for the day-to-day operation of the business.
This role is key, and the incumbent is a Subject Matter Expert, so when it comes to the Manufacturing System, they have oversight for all configuration, user and reporting activities associated with the system, its key components and user activities.
In performing these duties, the Manufacturing System Administrator will be required to liaise regularly and collaborate with other departments and functions such as (but not limited to) Operations, IT, Client Services, PMO, Sales and Finance.
These duties will also require interaction with all levels of the organization, from production operators and management to the Executive management team, and s / he will be expected to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels.
Responsibilities
- Engage with Operations management and staff to collect requirements, design, develop and deliver reports using Excel and DB
- Manage application configuration of the Manufacturing System
- Maintain required Tactic’ scheduling system reporting using W / S Banded Report Writer
- Manage and oversee daily monitoring and fixes for Data Base and application issues, including troubleshooting of application, configuration and user issues
- M-Print On-Demand tool support and BiBatch converter virtual printer (requires HTML / CSS knowledge)
- Provide expert support, maintain and configure the Tactic’ scheduling system and associated integration with the Manufacturing System
- Manage and oversee the training of G+D users, including the creation of associated documents as required
- Maintain DCT Helper Application (sensors) which requires working knowledge of C# .NET including custom controls HTML and web pages and screen scraping’ methodologies)
- Oversee and manage vendor relationships to ensure the efficient operation of the Manufacturing System and tools
- Provide expertise and input for projects and initiatives involving the Manufacturing System and tools
- Maintain and oversee physical plant and system hardware in close collaboration with IT
- Maintains the B1(programming routines) Service Interface Data Base, including edit and configuration
- Configure and manage print queues and Manufacturing System ticket printers
- Coordinate with IT to oversee the setup and configuration of data collection terminals
- Oversee and manage application patches and license files in close collaboration with IT
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Experience and Educational Requirements
Work Experience :
- 3-5 years’ hands-on work experience (user as opposed to the developer) with DB and reporting
- 2-3 years of experience creating .NET applications
- 2-3 years of experience creating Windows Services in .NET

- Technologies in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Ability to translate complex technical details into workable general scenarios within the business structure
- Strong communicator with an ability to relate business requirements to technical solutions, across various departments and functions and between levels

- Proven work experience in coordinating / overseeing the activities of outside vendors
- Working knowledge of SAP is considered an asset
- Working knowledge of SQL (query language) & SQL Server experience as an asset
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel Macros (VBA)
- Intermediate knowledge of VB and / or C#
- Intermediate knowledge of HTML / CSS / JavaScript
- Basic to a good understanding of XML
- Basic to a good understanding of Windows Services
- Basic to a good understanding of screen scraping’ techniques (e.g. using VB, C# or similar)
- Intermediate working knowledge of how to use MS Office applications for generating technical charts, diagrams and flowcharts
Education :
BSc and / or equivalent work experience
Working Conditions
- While the majority of the work will be typical office / workstation in nature, there is a frequent need to interact directly with the operations management team, staff and environment
- Some physical work required related to the implementation and setup of hardware, installing hardware components, basic wiring hookup, etc.
- Given this position’s key role as Subject Matter Expert and administrator for the Manufacturing System, there is the potential for support outside of normal working hours, including weekends or holidays
- Infrequent travel is required to support the same activities in the Dorval facility of the Canadian operation
