Manager, Pickleball Facility
The Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the pickleball facility, including operations, staff management, customer service, league and organized play management/development, and facility maintenance. The Manager ensures that the facility runs smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and standards. The Manager provides strategic assistance to the owner, including long‑term partnerships, seeking and applying for grants, generating or improving upon existing policies and procedures, and general ideas to increase overall profitability and executing those initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Management: Develop, implement and maintain operational policies and procedures; oversee daily operations, including court reservations, equipment rentals, and facility maintenance; become a super‑user of court reserve and seek solutions; keep up-to-date with court reserve updates and feature enhancements and determine which of the new enhancements are beneficial for YYC Pickleball and implement/teach staff how to use them; oversee the Connect team application and set up for proper use, onboarding and communications; ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
- Staff Management: Recruit, hire, train, supervise staff; schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all operations; provide ongoing training and development opportunities for staff; find creative ways to hire staff (e.g., grants or practicums).
- Customer Service: Maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction; address customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback promptly and professionally; develop and implement strategies to attract and retain customers; develop and manage budgets, ensuring that financial goals are met; monitor revenue and expenses, and implement cost‑control measures as needed; prepare regular financial reports for management.
- Strategic Initiatives: Assist with long‑term initiatives such as collaborations, strategic partnerships or ideas that increase profitability; determine which partnerships are worthwhile pursuing; develop organized play formats (leagues, competitive events, tournaments); generate promotions to incentivize and increase utilization; grow youth pickleball programs and promote YYC Pickleball to the youth demographic; monitor various grants applicable to YYC Pickleball or find ways to optimize programs; evaluate and implement new applications or software to improve business operations.
- Marketing and Promotion: Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the facility and its programs; collaborate with social media marketing team to create promotional materials and campaigns; participate in community events to promote the facility and engage with the community; generate ideas for other community events or opportunities for awareness and exposure of the brand; monitor competitors and adapt or change programs as required.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure that the facility is well‑maintained, clean, and in good repair; coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed; monitor and maintain equipment inventory.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Previous experience in facility management, preferably in the sports or recreation industry.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of pickleball rules and regulations (preferred).

Pay: $72,318 to $83,165 per annum + Super + Allowance.

- Lead a small team of staff at an operational level, ensuring that Council’s parks, sporting fields and turf wickets are maintained to the highest standard.
- Manage routine staffing matters such as ensuring the safety of staff on all job sites and resolving routine enquiries.
- Operate appropriate machinery, carry out development work and garden maintenance in parks and reserves, and control roadside growth as directed.
Ideal Candidate: Certificate III in Sports Turf Management; 3–5 years of experience in turf preparation and maintenance; strong customer service skills; current Chemical Users certificate; General Construction Induction card (white card); Class C driver’s licence. Cricket wicket, line marking and experience looking after high‑profile sports fields is desirable.
