The Construction Labourer plays a key role in supporting site operations and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment throughout the residential construction process. This position involves a range of general labour duties and safety responsibilities from early framing through to project completion.
Departmental Core Functions :
Site Safety & Preparation
- Install required safety signage once framing is complete (e.g., fall hazard warnings, fire safety plans).
- Set up and maintain temporary stairs, walkways, and handrails during the framing stage.
- Install and maintain safety railings inside homes post-framing.
- Ensure construction locks and handles are installed once framing is complete.
- Place caution tape or barricades between active construction areas and occupied homes / sidewalks.
Site Maintenance
Perform general lot maintenance, including weed removal, garbage pickup, and construction debris disposal.Maintain cleanliness of the construction site throughout the entire build process.Conduct snow removal on active construction sites and monitor completed inventory for snow buildup.Maintain and update lot signs as required.Ensure all storage areas are clean, organized, and labeled clearly.Maintain a detailed inventory list of tools and materials, including locations.Daily & Weekly Duties
Complete and submit daily hazard assessments.Prepare construction sites for the weekend every Friday (refer to weekend prep checklist).Complete project-specific checklists according to the construction schedule (e.g., completion checklist).Conduct regular community checks (see checklist).General Team Functions :
Active participation in weekly construction meetings.Active participation in team building events and team outings.Collaborates with Construction Manager in setting professional goals.Required Reporting :
