What is the Opportunity?
Nuclear’ s portfolio of building, refurbishing, maintaining, and decommissioning nuclear power facilities reflects a record of project success that ranges from small but essential maintenance contracts, to major construction endeavors. Aecon supports clients with expert project management to the most exacting standards.
Working with our joint venture partner Atkins Realis, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded the definition phase contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to assist in planning the Pickering Retube, Feeder and Boiler replacement (RFBR) project. This project involves the refurbishment of four reactors and replacement of the forty eight steam generators at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.
The RFBR Welding Manager, reporting to the Senior Construction Manager, is responsible for driving industry best welding performance by developing and implementing welding processes used for construction activities. The Weld Program Manager is also responsible for ensuring compliance of the Aecon the welding QA program across the PNGS site.
What You'll Do Here :
- Scheduling of technical welding team activities (ie pre-process qualification planning) and representing the welding services group both internally and externally
- Strong weld process implementation skills (ie how to transfer a welder process from the booth to the field effectively)
- Welding related technical trouble shooting management skills and abilities
- Management of welding team (Etechs, Weld Specialists, Weld Engineers) and specialized weld tooling
- Collaboration with engineers, technologists, and trades people with ONE Team approach to help our clients succeed
- Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with Aecon Red Book Safety requirements
- Conducting technical reviews of Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Requests for Proposals (RFP) and contract specification and drawings for welding requirements
- Interpreting drawings, codes, standards, and procedures, and summarizing for project personnel
- Determining welding processes and weld consumables and selecting weld procedures and equipment based on the specifications, properties, and characteristics of base metals
- Certifying WPS and PQRs and registering with regulatory bodies
- Preparing Heat Treatment Instructions
- Maintaining records of WPSs, PQRs, Heat Treatment Instructions and welders’ tickets, qualifications, and welding continuity
- Reviewing fabrication drawings and determining joint configurations and weld symbols
- Preparing requisitions and Aecon Technical Specifications for the purchase of weld consumables and selecting appropriate Special Purchasing Instructions
- Attending team meetings and advising on design, construction, and fabrication issues
- Reviewing and implementing OPEX’s from project sites
- Staying current with and introducing new technologies
