Duties :

VIU is seeking dynamic nursing instructors to deliver a variety of courses (some virtual) within the Practical Nursing (PN) program at our Nanaimo, Cowichan, and tiwšɛmawtxʷ campuses for the 2024 / 2025 academic year. For a complete listing of our course offerings, see .

PN Instructors participate in wide variety of teaching and learning opportunities in clinical, lab and classroom settings including : the preparation and delivery of class content; the design and grading of student assignments and tests; and, the facilitation of student integration of theory and practice.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work in a team-oriented Faculty in an institution that is primarily focused on students and teaching. Candidates must be able to foster student success, develop stimulating learning opportunities and participate in instructional advising with students.

Candidates will also participate in activities outside the classroom including departmental and faculty meetings, contribute to program activities related to curriculum and administrative planning activities.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.

Required Qualifications :

EDUCATION :

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an appropriately accredited institution with current practicing BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in good standing; (required to teach theory courses);
• The BC Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, or its equivalent, completed or in progress, or a commitment to engage in the training (maximum two years to completion) from an accredited institution;
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from an appropriately accredited institution with current practicing BC College of Nurses and Midwifes (BCCNM) in good standing. Faculty with this designation only are qualified to teach clinical and lab courses.

EXPERIENCE

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record. Some positions require travel to a variety of practice locations.
