This is a temporary replacement position for a bargaining unit employee . Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, School of Health, Wellness and Sciences, this incumbent is responsible to coordinate scheduling, organize and maintain the Paramedic labs including Simulation. The incumbent is responsible to provide guidance and direction to students during their lab practice and model effective patient care management. This includes organizing student learning activities and demonstrations; equipment set up, maintaining learning tools, equipment and supplies; and maintaining accurate student records. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance and ensuring the high-fidelity equipment is in good working order, ordering supplies and helping prepare case scenarios and programming the mannequins so they are ready to support simulated learning in the labs. The incumbent supports the operation of the paramedic lab including communication to all users, inventory, records management and ongoing maintenance of equipment, purchasing supplies and stocking the clinic. This position is also responsible for WHMIS, infection control and student / staff in-service. Specific duties include, but are not limited to :
- Planning an effective means of demonstrating skills utilizing a variety of resources including high-fidelity patient simulation scenarios
- Planning and coordinating demonstrations, supervised practice and skills assessment times in conjunction with students to accommodate students’ needs
- Collaborating with faculty to formulate a plan of action for students struggling to demonstrate skill competency in the practice setting and provides individual coaching to students referred back from the practicum setting.
- Schedule and set-up practice sessions complete with scenarios, patient simulators, equipment, supplies, computer resources, student mentors, documentation, DVDs and reference books
- Demonstrate and facilitate the practice of skills that require critique assessments
- Monitor field placements via workplace visits and / or phone consultation. If problems / issues are identified, gather information and refer issue to coordinator to resolve
- Assist in organization of lab for preparation for Open House and other initiatives
- Purchase new equipment and consumables required for daily operation in consultation with the Associate Dean
- Update resources available in the paramedic labs, including computer software, learning tools, posters, manuals, journal articles, resource textbooks, equipment and supplies
- Contact physical resources or computer services with environmental problems in the lab
- Network with community practice agencies to keep current on new equipment or supplies
- Monitor, record and tracks students’ progress and readiness of paramedic skills for proficiency and safety using manual tracking sheets and communicates any concerns to program coordinator and appropriate faculty
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings, providing observations on students’ skill progression, attendance and problems; attend curriculum committee meetings providing input regarding paramedic skills, curriculum review; attend Retreat Days
- Organize and implement in-service training / orientation for students, FT and NFT faculty, on the use of new equipment in the lab
- As part of the team, participates and collaborates with faculty for program curriculum review
- Assists faculty with the update of the student / faculty lab resource manual
- Maintain own currency with program standards and competencies, certifications
Qualifications :
