Property Accountant

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join our client, a leading residential developer with their office located in Burnaby. The Property Accountant will take ownership of the full-cycle accounting and reporting for a portfolio of income properties, and will play a critical part in supporting property management, leasing, finance, and tax teams while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and insight-driven reporting.

Key Responsibilities
Property Management Accounting

• Maintain lease and tenant information in Yardi and prepare annual rent schedules
• Prepare operating cost reconciliations for tenants; respond to tenant inquiries
• Review and validate rent rolls
• Coordinate tenant chargebacks and calculate monthly management fees
• Support the property budget process, including variance analysis and reporting
• Set up new properties, record fixed assets, and establish amortization schedules

Full Cycle Accounting

• Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP, including accruals, amortization, and bad debt
• Oversee accounts receivable reporting and collections
• Monitor accounts payable, approve invoices and purchase orders
• Track working capital requirements, owner equity requirements, and distributions
• Prepare requisitions for intercompany reimbursements and investor distributions
• Deliver monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, trial balances, and consolidated working papers

Qualifications

• CPA designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) with a university-level education
• Minimum 5 years of progressive full-cycle real estate accounting experience
• Proficiency in Yardi and advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams)
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger picture
• Excellent analytical, communication, and decision-making skills
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance competing priorities
