Salary :

Maintenance Service Worker 1 (MSW1) – Park Maintenance Worker 1 : $23.11 - $26.00 per hour

Maintenance Service Worker 3 (MSW3) – Park Maintenance Crew Lead : $26.18 - $32.08 per hour

In addition to regular wages, regular wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave :

  • 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay :

  • $3.25 per hour for weekends
  • $2.75 per hour for evenings

    If you enjoy working outside and are committed to caring for Alberta Park’s facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team in the Slave Lake Area. We are looking for highly motivated, well‑organized, responsible Maintenance Service Workers for the 2026 summer operating season.

    Individuals will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day‑use areas, campgrounds, facilities and trail systems.

    We are currently looking to hire Park Maintenance Workers for the following Provincial Parks in the Slave Lake District .

    Park Maintenance Worker 1 (MSW1) – 3 positions

    Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3) – 1 position

    As a Park Maintenance Service Worker (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but not limited to :

  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of the wading pool facility
  • Maintaining wading pool water quality and chemical balance
  • Lawn maintenance and minor repairs of facilities
  • Performing routine custodial and cleaning duties of park facilities
  • Responding to in‑person requests for information on area amenities and park conditions, as needed
  • Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment
  • Completing trail and signage projects
  • Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly
  • Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols as well as the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols
  • Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses

    As the Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3), primary duties include assisting MSW1 with the duties mentioned above, in addition to some administrative and supervisory tasks such as :

  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of the wading pool facility
  • Maintaining wading pool water quality and chemical balance
  • On‑site lead for a crew of MSW staff; accountable for direct site operations and providing input for task scheduling for maintenance staff
  • Assisting with formal inspections, maintenance and servicing of equipment
  • Maintaining roads and parking lot areas
  • Supporting the operation of various utility systems in accordance with standards and regulations to ensure safe provision of drinking water and wastewater removal / treatment
  • Conducting purchasing and ordering supply inventory within budget
  • Assisting with staff training and staff performance reviews

    All positions will require you to work various shifts including weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for the number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any time of weather conditions, rain or shine.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience required

  • Park Maintenance Worker 1 (MSW1) – Some high school education. Equivalency : Directly related experience considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3) – Some high school education, related training and 2 years of related experience, including supervisory experience. Equivalency : Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education, and some supervisory experience.
  • Additional requirements

  • Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent and Driver’s Abstract.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate.
  • Additional Assets to be successful in any of the roles

  • High School Diploma is an asset but not required.
  • Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment.
  • Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions.
  • Chainsaw certification.
  • Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.
  • Pool Certification and / or experience with aquatic facilities.

    Terms of Employment

    Position start / end dates vary

  • Late April – Early September (MSW1)
  • Late April – Late October (MSW3)
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required.
  • Final candidates may be required to provide an acceptable 5‑year Commercial Driver’s Abstract.
  • Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate will be required.
  • Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided.
  • These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April / early May 2026).
  • Shared staff housing may be available.
