OVERNIGHT MAINTENANCE & SECURITY
Employment Type & Shifts : Full Time, Evening and Overnight Shifts, 10 hours (7pm to 5am) and generally rotate on a schedule of 4 on 4 off. Flexibility and reliability are key as schedules are set in advance, with shifts variable over the seven days of the week (including some weekends and statutory holidays).
Compensation : Annual salary range of $56,000 - $63,135. Starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal parity.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Overnight Maintenance & Security ensures a safe and secure campus for all students, staff, visitors, and faculty, while also executing minor repair work, maintaining equipment, and performing preventative inspections of systems relating to building mechanics. This position is expected to remain alert to emergencies and provide first‑line response, emergency management, and / or referral if required. This role is well‑suited to night owls who enjoy maintenance projects and staying active.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Working primarily alone, but under the direction of the Night Supervisor, Overnight Maintenance & Security completes these job responsibilities :
Grounds & Facilities Maintenance
Complete tasks that draw from many industrial disciplines including, but not limited to, lighting, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, furniture assembly and repairs, floor covering, and equipment maintenance etc.Perform regular maintenance, safety checks and repairs to related equipment and systems including but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical etc.Provide professional and efficient support for event setups and teardownsAssembly and disassembly of office and residential furnishings and fixturesSafely handle a variety of materials and inventory; this includes moving furniture and household items in and between residencesUnload, load, and secure incoming and outgoing materials and suppliesPerform jobsite cleanup and equipment handlingWaste collection and any other waste and recycling assigned tasks including but not limited to maintenance, landscaping, and event supportPerform snow removal and other seasonal landscaping responsibilitiesComplete administrative duties, such as filling out forms and updating maintenance reports within the computerized maintenance management system and reporting maintenance statuses to supervisorPerform other facility maintenance and grounds‑related duties as neededCampus Security and Patrol
Complete foot and mobile (when needed) patrol checks of all buildings and surrounding areas on campusComplete reports on all incidents and questionable activitiesMaintain complete confidentiality regarding all security matters on campus and work closely with local RCMP detachment as requiredBe aware of all vehicles entering campus after hoursMaintain awareness of health and safety practices and procedures and act in accordance with theseMaintain a sound working knowledge regarding Lockdown procedures including criteria for activation and take immediate and appropriate steps in the event of a LockdownProvide back‑up coverage for Security Guards during vacation and other absencesWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Available and interested in evening and overnight shifts, with the flexibility to work shifts weeknights, weekends, and on statutory holidaysGrade 12 requiredMinimum valid class 5 BC driver's license, with standard transmission experience preferredExperience with painting, carpentry, plumbing, and landscaping preferredExperience with hand tools, electric tools, hand carts, and furniture dollysDirect experience in security preferredCurrent OFA Level 2 First‑Aid and CPR certifications preferredCertifications in forklift, boom lift, scissor lift, fall arrest, and WHMIS preferredWillingness to complete Basic Security Training course completion and BC Security Workers License within 6 months of start dateBasic mechanical and problem‑solving skills, with some industrial work experience (specialized training provided)Experience in completing administrative duties, such as email, filling out forms and updating maintenance reports within the computerized maintenance management systemPhysically fit and able to walk and / or stand for extended periods of time and physically capable to lifting and moving objects up to 15 kg as necessaryAble to work in variable climate conditions, indoors and outdoors, with and around various machineryAbility to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsSkill in performing building security and lock procedures, and in providing protection services to individuals on campusAbility to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and proceduresAbility to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnelAble to work collaborativelySelf‑motivated and independent, with a proven ability to work without supervisionShawnigan Lake School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff (and volunteers) to share this commitment.
