Position : Material Handler
Reports To : Production Supervisor
Summary
The primary responsibility of the Material Handler is to maintain and ensure the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the production cooler area. Assist with the picking, packing, wrapping, and movement of raw materials and finished products to and from designated locations within the warehouse. Act as a backup for loading and unloading shipments, including heavy lifting and the operation of necessary equipment such as electric pallet jacks and forklifts. Additional backup duties involve inspecting incoming and outgoing shipments to confirm contents and quality, and to accurately document inventory transactions. Recognize how their role impacts other business functions that rely on the precise and efficient handling of incoming and outgoing items. Effective inventory management and maintaining vendor relationships with shipping companies are also crucial aspects of this position.

Responsible for the upkeep and organization of the production cooler areaManage stock rotation, transferring frozen products for temperingTransporting completed orders to the warehouse upon shipmentSafely operate a forklift to move skids between the warehouse and production areaPlace production skids in the stock area and lotting them appropriatelyPrepare shipping and receiving dock to accept incoming / outgoing productPick orders and prepare for shipping, including : stacking, wrapping, and crating productsMatch product with purchase orders / shipping ordersVerify received product expiration codesInspect product to ensure saleable condition with acceptable code datingOperate a Forklift or Electric Pallet Jack in a safe manner to move productOperate handheld scanners to complete picking, packing, and inventory transactions with accuracyMaintain a safe work environmentMay lift cases of product according to documented proceduresAdhere to daily shipment scheduleReport discrepancies to immediate supervisorFollow current standards and proceduresEnsure that shipments contain proper documentation and if multiple items per shipment, ensure item lists are completePerform monthly inventory countsMaintain organized work area according to policies, procedures and safety regulationsPerform other duties as assignedRequirements :
High school diplomaForklift certification required [Crown Stand Up Forklift]Experience in the chilled and frozen warehouse industry preferredWorking experience in Shipping and Receiving role requiredAbility to perform repetitive heavy lifting (up to 23 kgs)Able to communicate both verbally and in writingBasic mathematical skillsValid driver's license and good driving recordKnowledge of filling out waybills and bills of lading and international shipmentsFollow all Forklift safety policies, processes, practices, including pedestrian safetyAbility to weigh and measure itemsWorking knowledge of safe lifting methodsAble to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independentlyComputer literacy, including working skills of Excel and e-mailAttention to detail in all areas of workGood organizational, time management and prioritizing skillsStrong work ethic and positive team attitudeWorking Conditions / Physical Demands :
Exposure to vibration and noise from forklift drivingOvertime as requiredLifting or moving up to 23 kgs may be requiredWork is performed in a combination of environments, including freezers (-18 degrees C) and coolers (-4 degrees C)This position may be exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes and oilsRepetitive tasks within a fast-paced environmentFlexibility to work additional hours as needed, or change start and finish times per business requirementsSafety equipment is required (steel toed safety boots, hearing protection)For information about the company, go to
