What are your contributions to the team?
- Review, design, and implement, where needed, the Company’s global data protection program and governance strategy, based on the Company’s operations and applicable regulations globally.
- Act as the main point of contact and as an expert within the organization, in a key role in privacy compliance, and counselling stakeholders for any questions relating to this topic.
- Oversee continuous adherence to the company’s data protection program, policies, and to best practices. Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement training programs and raise awareness of data protection and privacy issues among internal teams.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including by reviewing documentation and advising teams.
- Coordinate responses to privacy incidents and breaches, internal audits, investigations and interact with local data protection authorities, when required.
- Process requests for access to personal information from interested individuals.
- Advise on the keeping of certain records of processing activities.
- Perform activities related to privacy impact assessments and vendor due diligence.
- Measure and monitor the effectiveness of tools and processes to drive compliance and recommend improvements.
- Manage other special projects on an as needed basis.
How to thrive in this role? Skills, knowledge & experience :
- You have about 7 to 10 years of experience in a data privacy or compliance role for a multinational or in private practice in a reputable law firm.
- You have a Degree in Law and are a Member of the Quebec or Ontario Bar, or, you have a Degree in another Business-related discipline (e.
g. IT) combined with a solid experience tied to the role.
- Being a Member of the Quebec or the Ontario Bar is an asset.
- You have good knowledge of global data privacy laws, and the ability to interpret and apply such laws, in Quebec, the U.S. and Europe (GDPR).
- You are a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or have a similar certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) or other reputable professional association (or possess the relevant qualifications to become one and are willing to study towards such goal).
- You have experience with privacy breach incident response and privacy impact assessments.
- You can reconcile compliance requirements with practical business needs.
- You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in both French and English is essential.
- You can manage large projects as a proven team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- You possess solid knowledge of various IT applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- You are comfortable to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and can work independently.
- You are available to travel occasionally if required.
