Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY
The role will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- As directed, support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings, students support, etc.).
- Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
- Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
- Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
- May chaperone the students as the driver does drop offs and picks ups of the students for various programs.
- May assist with different basic administrative tasks – photocopy activities, greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc. as required.
- May keep a log of different activities.
- Assist in the organization, maintenance, and general cleanliness of the lessons area.
- Assist with the MU / facility general clean up and set up for different activities.
- Provide general information to visitors.
Community Program Delivery
Lead and coordinate all regular Community related programs and services (Client Intake, Emergency Assistance, Pathway of Hope, Food Bank Distribution, Summer Camps, Back to School Backpacks, Christmas Assistance, etc.)Conduct initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client / family protection issues), determining immediate needs and support needed by the clientImplement and oversee the Pathway of Hope program / caseworkCollaborate with the Trustee Coordinator to support program and participants, in both practical and spiritual mattersSupport the community in matters related to the delivery of community-based feeding programsAssist in the coordination of various community food drives and fundraising campaigns as neededEnsure confidentiality and the maintenance of accurate records related to the delivery of client services using the Link2Feed client management system.In-scope supervision includes assigning work, providing direction, and checking for adherence to program delivery standardsMay provide input and recommendations to Corps Officer and CMD on job-related training, performance management.Through exercising empathetic care, assist individuals to determine appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitate effective problem-solving behaviors of the client / familyProvide emergency assistance services (i.e., housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy; referrals to outside agencies when requiredMay provide budgeting guidance and / or trusteeship services for clientsNetworking and referring to The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, when necessaryMay develop and conduct workshops for clients / families, as appropriateDirect and supervise volunteers, which include recruitment, selection, orientation, training, evaluation, and disciplineProvide input into the operational budget, responsible for Food Bank donations and cash managementMay organize seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Food Drives, Community Dinners, etc.)Food Bank Management

Reports directly to the Community Ministries Director.Direct reports : Family Services Worker / POH Case Worker, Food Bank Driver / Swamper.Periodically acts as a team lead - provides supervision and ensures adherence to quality standards for volunteers or temporary staff for special events / activitiesProvide input into hiring, recruiting, job‑related training, and supervising volunteersFINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT
Responsible for financial matters regularly accepting donations from donors; responsibility for wise use of own resources.The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.WORKING CONDITIONS
Working environment is typically in the Family Services / Food Bank building and performs some outdoor duties.The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions : exposure to dirt and fumes, work‑related stress, dealing with angry and abusive people.The incumbent may have to travel to pick up donations.The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to : physical attacks by others (and verbal) (e.g. Disgruntled clients acting out physically or verbally); exposure to infectious diseases; moving objects; sharp objects.The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules) : Universal Precautions, Non‑violent crisis intervention training, FoodSafe Training, Take Protective Barriers.Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.Ability to lift to 20 lbs.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.College degree in Social Work (or equivalent field such as Human Services or Social Services) preferred.Alternative combination of Education and Experience may be considered, such as completion of a formal post‑secondary program of two academic years and previous three years experience in program administration, community services, or related areas required.At least one year of previous experience with broader community engagement (such as events or communications) required.CPR, First Aid and Non‑Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.Experience and Knowledge :Knowledgeable about Social Media management and advertising.Experience working with a web‑based volunteer database (e.g., VSP).Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to stay informed about community engagement trends and the organization’s mission and objectives.Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and editing software.Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong conflict‑resolution skills.Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse population of staff, volunteers, and clients.Strong administrative, time‑management, and organization skills.The performance of the job requires attentive listening (intake / guidance to clients), and daily computer work.Current Driver’s License with driver’s abstract.The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of loading / unloading trucks, sorting donated goods, intervening in physical confrontations.Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $39,739.02 to $49,673.78 with a maximum of $59,608.54.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
