About the position

Duties

Parks Canada is looking for a reliable, motivated, and detail-oriented individual with an interest in history and cultural resources (historic buildings, archaeological sites, artworks, and artifacts) from approximately May to September. The successful candidate will support a variety of cultural resource management projects. Key responsibilities include assisting with :

  • Monitoring of cultural resources, including agents of deterioration in National Historic Sites
  • Collections management, including inventory, condition reporting, movements, and record keeping
  • Archaeological fieldwork and data collection
  • Records management, both digital and paperYou will be expected to work as part of a team and represent Parks Canada. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are a key factor for the successful candidate. Intent of the process
  • The results may be used in the future to fill other temporary student vacancies that may arise in the Banff Field Unit, in various locations, with full or part-time hours for various tenures, depending on status of the selected candidate. Positions to be filled

    Operational Requirements

    OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Willing and able to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal safety equipment
  • Willing and able to work varied hours, shift, weekends, evenings, overtime and holidays
  • Willing and able to work outdoors including at high altitude (mountaintop environment), in forests, and in varied weather conditions
  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, handling cultural resources, digging archaeological test pits, cleaning historic sites, and minor maintenance
  • Willing and able to conduct repetitive tasks, and make moderate effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods
