Hybrid Field Sampler / Heavy Equipment Operator
Cariboo Gold Project – Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd. (subsidiary of Osisko Development Corp.) located in Wells, BC. Position : Hybrid Field Sampler / Heavy Equipment Operator.
Base Pay Range
CA$35.00 / hr – CA$45.00 / hr (commensurate with experience).
Overview
The successful candidate will manage day‑to‑day activities optimizing productivity, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, and operating a range of heavy equipment and water sampling equipment.
Location
Primary work at the QR Mill, 59 km on the 500 Rd off Barkerville Highway (HWY 26), approximately 85 km from Quesnel. Travel to the project in Wells, BC may be required from time to time.
Main Responsibilities
- Wear and maintain appropriate PPE.
- Receive daily instructions from the shift supervisor.
- Follow QR lockout procedures when locking out or isolating equipment.
- Collect and test water samples for chemical and bacterial content.
- Analyze test results, instrument readings, and adjust plant equipment and systems as needed.
- Ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness of the exterior and interior of equipment.
- Patrol plant to check pumps, motors, filters, chlorinators, and other equipment; monitor gauges and meters to detect malfunctions.
- Test and adjust chemical feed rates to meet disinfection quality standards.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and report deficiencies to supervisor or mechanical department.
- Deliver reagents and supplies to mill and other departments as required.
- Perform snow removal when required or requested by supervisor.
- Unload heavy freight from incoming trucks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in training and train other employees.
- Support implementation of policies and procedures.
- Keep a daily log of shift events.
Skills And Abilities
Work in adverse weather, extreme noise, vibration, dust, and fumes.Physically lift up to 80 lb.Excellent visual acuity and depth perception for reading gauges.Ability to read maps and follow written and verbal instructions.Situational awareness around moving parts and hazards.Team‑oriented and collaborative.Positive interpersonal skills and willingness to mentor.Record of excellent safety and attendance.Experience operating heavy equipment.EOCP levels 1‑3 considered an asset.Qualifications
Field sampling experience in disciplines such as water sampling, hydrology, meteorology, vegetation, dust fall, wildlife, aquatic biology, land reclamation, contaminated sites, erosion / sediment management, hazardous waste, spill cleanup, drainage control, or similar.Physically fit and capable of carrying out required physical activities.Team‑oriented with a drive to achieve personal results.Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with frequent adjustments.Excellent planning, problem‑solving, coordination, and fast‑learning skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work outdoors year‑round in extreme weather, on heavy equipment, uneven ground, water bodies, wild animal surroundings, snowmobiles, and ATVs.Five or more years of heavy equipment operation experience in mining or a similar environment.Valid driver’s license.Benefits
